Mr. Carmack and Shanghai Doom, two legendary projects known for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sound and styles, have combined forces to bring fans a filthy, trap banger titled “Ripper”, out now on Deadbeats.

Mr. Carmack has been leading the charge in experimental beats since the mid-2010s, inspiring the next great wave of trap and bass producers who aren’t afraid to take risks. August 2022 has been an exciting time for new Carmack music, which saw the arrival of his five-track CHAOS EP just a couple weeks ago. This was his first official release in nearly two years on his self-run Forward Thinkers Group label. In fact, Mr. Carmack is preparing for the “Forward Thinkers Tour” this Fall, hitting a number of cities all across the country, with Jon Casey as direct support on select dates.

The ever-impressive production duo of Shanghai Doom has been blowing our minds here at Heard It Here First for the last several years. Known for some of the most intricate, experimental bass music in the industry, this project has had a steady cadence of releases that leave us wondering what in the world just hit us. In the last two months alone, Shanghai Doom has unleashed their three-track Failed Connections EP, featuring collabs with TRON3X, Xenotype and Inari, as well as some nasty flips of“Reptile’s Theme” by Skrillex and “Crack The Window” by Yheti. The duo is currently in the middle of touring with Protohype on the “ENT/R Neon Tour”.

“Ripper” is a masterclass in sound design and arrangement, allowing both artists to showcase their range of sounds. This one feels like we’re traveling through the murky depths of a swamp, where different creatures make their presence felt with every squirm and squiggle.

The collaborative track takes a dark and grimey approach from the start, in which Mr. Carmack’s signature synth build brings us to a deep, mind-blowing drop. Both acts do an amazing job blending their sounds with one another, allowing space for each artist to be on full display in different regions of the headphones without overwhelming the 808s and drum pattern that keep this track moving. This stank face-inducing tune will certainly heat up clubs and festivals all over as the Summer begins to wind down.
