Denver-based classically-trained pianist, producer, and DJ Benjamin Kolot enters the world of electronic music with a new moniker, BUBS. The Denver University musician mashes elements of pop, future bass, and dubstep to make a distinct and personal sound.
BUBS and Anika Erickson’s debut track, “Hollow,” introduces their artistic journey into the world of EDM. Rooted in classical backgrounds, their collaboration breathes new life into the more classic electronic music styles.
By exploring themes of self-esteem and emptiness, they craft a sonic experience that resonates with listeners on an emotional level. “Hollow” serves as a testament to the transformative power of music. Through their shared vulnerability, BUBS and Erickson hope to uplift and support those who find solace in their work. As they continue to refine their sound and embark on their musical endeavors, we eagerly await the next chapter in their artistic evolution.
“Hollow” begins polished and silky, the listener is then greeted by Erickson’s authentic and emotional vocals. BUBS’ use of distinct synths and thick bass creates a textural contrast, which gives a sense of spaciousness in the tune. “Hollow” was written during a dark period in both BUBS’ and Anika Erickson’s lives. Here’s what they had to say about their newest work:
“We hope that this tune resonates with our listeners and helps them realize that when they are struggling they’re not alone.” – BUBS
