Sorza’s EP Pillars, released via Noisia’s label VISION, is a body of work that experiments with multiple genres. Noisia, the iconic trio of Dutch producers Thijs, Nik, and Martijn, are well known for their mind-bending sound design and productions that have inspired an upcoming generation of producers to push the genre forward.
VISION’s goal is to release innovative bass music. The label showcases both expert producers as well as forward-thinking up-and-comers. VISION has released music from other esteemed electronic artists like Machinedrum, Amon Tobin, Hamdi, and Koan Sound.
Sorza, a newer project that started in 2021, is also 1/2 of a DNB duo called The Outsiders. Sorza’s new EP, Pillars, almost a mini-album, is a collection of different explorations within the bass music spectrum. The result is a diverse multi-genre project switching between organic and digital sound pallets.
The first track introduces the EP with ethereal melodies and organic soundscapes that create a lush and mesmerizing atmosphere. The EP ranges from glitchy and heavy, to melodic and catchy. Some of the more melodic and emotional songs on the project are “Visions of what could be,” and “At will (Interlude),” while “Does it hurt me” and “Dumble” are heavier and more club-oriented. Pillars has a combination of genres and moods that would work well on big sound systems at festivals and on road trips or at home. The EP showcases Sorza’s talent for production and songwriting, and how he’s comfortable making a wide range of styles instead of just sticking to one sound.
