This past weekend the newest and hottest bass duo, LSZEE, took over the Brooklyn Mirage alongside an all-star cast of supporting artists, including Daily Bread, Tripp St., A Hundred Drums, and Jordnmoody. After releasing their self-titled album and a two-night cosmic exploration at Red Rocks, CloZee and LSDREAM were ready to unleash mayhem in Brooklyn.
I couldn’t think of a better venue than Brooklyn Mirage for the East Coast’s unveiling of LSZEE. Between the open air, the prodigious visual screen, and the lights, I was hypnotized from 10 pm til 4 am.
I couldn’t miss the opportunity to catch my long-anticipated first Jordnmoody set. His latest EP, NIGHTSNEVEREND, recently released on CloZee’s label Odyzey Music, has been on repeat lately and his opening set at The Mirage didn’t disappoint. He wasted no time setting the mood for the evening with his deep, immersive beats, intricate sound design, and hypnotic rhythms.
Following Jordnmoody was the elusive Tripp St. A long-time masked and enigmatic until late, Tripp St.’s breakout moment came with his debut album Welcome to Tripp St. also released under Odyzey Music. His entire performance demonstrated his mastery of deep basslines and experimental sound design, mixed with the perfect dose of Hip-Hop inspirations, which has helped him cultivate such a widespread fanbase.
Daily Bread into LSZEE into A Hundred Drums was nothing short of incredible. Daily Bread delivered a funky, groovy, feel-good set that had the crowd moving in unison in no time. Showcasing many beloved tracks including some of my latest favorites, “Push It To The Limit” featuring Artifaktsand “Two Hundred On The Dash,” from his recent album Flash Flood 2 Mixtape.
My first LSZEE set can be best described as a spectacle; a phantasmagoric showing of colors, lights, and lasers, all accompanied by many new visuals I haven’t seen from both CloZee and LSDREAM. It was one and a half hours of pure beauty and joy, both felt by the artists and the fans. Witnessing Chloe and Sami take a moment to let loose and dance their hearts out with their fans to their new music was truly special. I did not know what I expected from this show, but I certainly didn’t expect it to affect me the way it did. I knew it would be unlike anything I’d ever seen before, a true miraculous spectacle in and of itself.
As my legs began to grow weary from countless hours of dancing, I rallied through to witness my first A Hundred Drums show. I have been chasing her for years. She followed LSZEE’s set with such a grimy, dirty, bass-face-inducing set that was truly one for the books. It was so much darker and heavier than I’d expected. In between dancing, I found myself marveling at the simplistic visuals during her set that were so unique, accompanied by the images of her face, making her set seem even more personal.
I’ve been to many amazing shows at Brooklyn Mirage but this one takes the cake. Every artist seemed absolutely delighted and truly honored to grace the stage of this incredible venue and the joy was mutually shared amongst everyone in the crowd.
I can’t wait to see how LSZEE continues to blossom both individually and as a whole as they take on this new journey. The synchronicity between them was palpable, whimsical and I can’t wait to bear witness to it again.
