Skinny Limbs Swings By For A HIHF Guest Mix & Interview Ahead Of B2TU XL New Year’s Celebration [Tracklist]

Skinny Limbs is a staple of the Denver bass scene that you absolutely MUST have on your radar. The rising star producer has worked with and gained tons of recognition from heavyweights like Champagne Drip, The Widdler, YOKO, and more, and has played fan-favorite festivals of the underground bass music world like Ohio’s Secret Dreams and Maryland’s Big Dub.

We recently teamed up with Caspa & Rusko for a giveaway of their B2TU (Back 2 The Underground) XL New Year’s Eve celebration at Mission Ballroom, where Skinny Limbs will perform alongside Ternion Sound, The Widdler, MYTHM, Torcha, and more. The bass-fueled event will also feature a Sub.Mission takeover from the iconic Denver company and its resident artists!

Today, we’re sitting with Skinny Limbs for a HIHF interview and guest mix! We got the scoop on the producer’s beginnings and inspirations and he took the time to throw down an all-original guest mix for us to prepare for next weekend’s B2TU XL at Mission Ballroom! The mix features music from both his Skinny Limbs and Critical H!t projects, the latter being in collaboration with fellow HIHF guest mix alumni and the absolute rockstar YOKO!

HIHF: Who are some of your biggest production inspirations?
 
Skinny Limbs: Currently some of my biggest bass music inspirations are artists that are pushing boundaries when it comes to sound design. Artists like Bukez Finezt, The Widdler, Ternion Sound, Kursa, Keota, Resonant Language and countless others inspire me on a daily basis. Each of them have given me a fresh perspective on bass music and redefined what I thought was possible with sound. I aim to do the same for others through my own music.
 
When did you start creating electronic music and/or DJing?
I started producing electronic music in 2017 and released my first electronic EP in 2018. I learned how to DJ in 2019 in order to prepare for my debut set at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom opening for Antennae, Govinda & ATYYA. At the time I used a Traktor controller as I had absolutely no idea how to use CDJ’s or mix very well.
 
What have been some of your favorite releases of 2024? Whether it’s singles or EPs or albums! Doesn’t need to be dance music either.
Wow, this is a difficult one there’s been so many cool releases this year. One EP that I love from this year would be the Stumped EP from Sturdy Tress. Sturdy Tress is a side project between my good friends Backleft & buttahbass, and those dudes are making some serious heat. Definitely check out their project if you haven’t yet! A single that I couldn’t stop playing this year was Ppl by Camoufly. That song is pretty sick, so I recommend that one as well.
 
We love your side project Critical H!t and all your collaborations with YOKO, what’s your relationship like and how is that amplified in the studio?
I love Yoko so much! That’s one of my best friends right there! We’ve been really close since 2019 so music and ideas seem to flow pretty easily to us. When we’re working, we keep it fun and we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves. We’re constantly joking around and just letting things flow. I feel like that energy is reflected in our tunes. Yoko has been a huge inspiration and role model for me as we’ve both grown and evolved over the years. It’s always a blast getting to make new music with her. Be on the lookout for more Critical H!t releases and shows in 2025.
 
What music did you listen to as a youth? Let’s say before you turned 18.
I’ve always had a pretty well-rounded taste in music and I listen to all sorts of genres. With that, electronic always stuck out to me the most sonically. I discovered Skrillex when I was 13 and ever since then I was hooked on dubstep. I got into artists like Zeds Dead, Knife Party, Pegboard Nerds, Rusko, Caspa, Flux Pavilion, Nero etc. A few years later I really enjoyed artists like Medasin, Flume, Herzeloyde & Great Dane as those artists explored a more “chill” side of EDM.
 
What can fans expect from your set at Back 2 The Underground XL on January 4th?
You guys can expect a ton of ID’s from me. I’ve got a bunch of new ones to share along with some older releases that I still love to play out. Also, you might even get a little Critical H!t appearance. I’m really excited to hear my music at Mission Ballroom and to be part of such a legendary lineup, it’s gonna be an insane night to say the least.
 
What are your all-time favorite Caspa and Rusko songs?
My all-time favorite Rusko song has to be Woo Boost. That tune is an absolute classic!
My favorite recent Caspa tune would have to be Locomotive. That tune just hits so hard. If we’re talking Caspa classics I’d have to go with Geordie Racer from 2010. Just like Woo Boost, that tune is another blueprint for great dubstep.
