Ravenscoon’s Sophomore Album GLASS ORCHID Is An Exploration Of Transformation

Ravenscoon is gearing up for a behemoth of a headlining tour across the US, and he’s kicking things off with a bang. January 17th marked the commencement of part two of his GLASS ORCHID Tour in Tempe, Arizona, and the official release of his second album. This eleven-track LP, GLASS ORCHID, embodies his personal and professional growth. Before diving into that, let’s shift our focus onto this arduous tour and the monumental cast of supporting artists.

Ravenscoon’s tour is seeing stops around the country at some iconic venues, as well as unconventional ones, including the OKC farmers market, where he will be bringing some of the best quality sound rigs in the business. For stops in Brooklyn, DC, Columbus, St. Pete, Dallas, and Denver, to name a few, he’s bringing some of the hottest supporting acts in bass music, including but not limited to Rusko, Must Die!, Manic Focus, Hairitage, Buku, Shlump, and Super Future.

Ahead of the album’s full release, Ravenscoon offered fans the singles “CHECKMATE” and “BLACK & BLUE.” Here is what he had to say about the thought put forth into them and GLASS ORCHID:

“CHECKMATE was created as a dance floor smasher designed for full intensity, energy, shock value, and excitement. I wanted to create something that bridges the styles of classic 140 dubstep with riddim—and trap drums. It’s something familiar but also experimental. Truly my CHECKMATE.”

A haunting, evocative wave track exploring heartbreak and betrayal. “BLACK & BLUE” is a gut-wrenching, haunting, and evocative wave track that showcases my versatility as a producer. Jessy Covets and I wrote lyrics about love, loss, betrayal, and heartbreak. I hope this one hits home.”

“Glass Orchid represents transformation. Beauty, and the fragility of both love and loss, how they combine to create something ephemeral and simultaneously lasting. The orchid, beautiful and mysterious, but made of glass, ready to break at any moment’s notice. This album represents a shift in my project, combining fun, playful, energetic bangers with longing, haunting wave tunes. It’s a yin and yang album that shows my versatility as a producer and songwriter and my ever-changing style.” – Ravenscoon

GLASS ORCHID opens with a bang. “BANG” reminds me of how I first fell in love with his music many years ago. Diabolical amounts of heavy basses and high-energy synths absolutely erupt into mayhem at every drop. Flozone and Ravenscoon wasted no time melting faces with this one. Both acts have contributed to the HIHF guest mix series in the past, you can peep their mixes here.

“DJJJJJJJJ” follows “BANG” so effortlessly. Fast-paced, wonky, otherwordly, and jam-packed with kicks and snares, you’ll lose yourself in the moment dancing your heart out to this one. It’s certain to have both headbangers and experimental bass fans going wild.

The project also propels Ravenscoon’s atmospheric bass music and aptitude for evoking emotions through music. The title track features Kambii and her vocals drive forth a powerful and sentimental message amongst wavy textures and free-flowing bass.

Another collab that surprised me was “FUSE” with one of my favorite acts, Mlotik. Immediately taken back by its resonating bass that ebbs and flows through the speakers, this one is all gas no brakes. Grab the rail and hang on because this track is mental!

For fans who didn’t get to attend his listening party at the legendary Black Box in Denver, check out the YouTube video as Ravenscoon playfully offers fans more depth behind each track!
