Mersiv has created a unique set of sounds on his new album, “Nostalgia,” merging alternative rock and dubstep. This album is pushing the boundaries of what a dubstep LP is ‘supposed to be’, and Mersiv has seriously outdone himself. The follow up to last year’s album “444,” it marks a shift from that record’s dreamy, static, stylings, to alternative-rock fuelled, heavy bass.
“Nostalgia” reflects Anderson Gallegos’ roots, as he grew up listening to mostly rock and heavy alternative. It’s thirteen tracks combine the two genres that shaped Mersiv, setting himself apart in electronic music scene once again.
Mersiv’s iconic “Pretty, Dark, Loud” style can be felt throughout “Nostalgia” in his melodic, hypnotic vocals and sharp, stabby bass. He opens up the album with “Vision,” vibrating listeners with metal-heavy dubstep. One of my favorite tracks on the album, “Drowning,” is full of alternative and indie influences, steadily building tension before exploding into heavy, ethereal textures. The album features collaborations with serious talents across the electronic music space; Seth David, HVDES, Fryar, Vera Kay and Seezyn.
Performing at the famous Colorado Ampitheatre, Red Rocks, the same day the album drop, Mersiv brought his innovative sounds to forefront of Denver’s EDM community this past weekend. Here is what Mersiv had to say about his Friday night show at the legendary venue:
“My 4th Red Rocks was seriously a dream come true. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude from the amazing feedback on the 2 sets and the new album. So much love to the amazing artists that performed with me, they all killed it and I’m so happy we were able to play our songs live!!” -Mersiv
