While masquerading as a rookie in 2019, the production prowess of newcomer REAPER could not hide – even behind the mystifying and mildly intimidating mask donned by the DJ/producer. With a debut EP championed by none other than Monstercat, it was hardly a wonder how their innovative take on drum ‘n’ bass skyrocketed into overnight sensationalism.
Riding the wave – or perhaps making them – into the new year, REAPER exploded onto the live scene just this month with an incredible show put on by none other than Brownies & Lemonade.
Comparatively, Awoltalk’s musical tenure has greatly outlived that of his collaborator on the latest track “Hysteria.” While the self-taught, self-made producer hasn’t had the same luxury of overnight success, his music has nevertheless been in the forefront of the minds of bassheads with massively popular Soundcloud remixes of superstars like Flume, Billie Eilish, and Skrillex.
The aptly titled single “Hysteria” has an intense but engaging party energy that shows the skills of both of its creators. With persistent percussion that varies in aggression but rarely rhythm, the track foregoes many of the half-time sensibilities of both artists for a headbanging masterpiece whose thick bass tones push the pace – even for drum ‘n’ bass.
Fresh off of the release of their The Prophecy: Volume 1 compilation, versatile and influential label Bassrush appears to have nabbed two impressive young talents in their backing of this brand new single.
