2020 has already seen the release of Louis the Child‘s debut studio album, Here For Now. Today, the powerhouse Winnetka-based DJ and production duo consisting of Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett dropped a beat tape to tease their forthcoming release, the highly anticipated Candy II project. The full 19-track Candy II project drops this Friday via Interscope Records.
The beat tape contains two mindblowing tracks, one of which is “Fresh Juice”, a monster trap collaboration with none other than TroyBoi. It’s an experimental, wonky trap heater–an unexpected twist and by far the hardest Louis The Child has ever gone on a track. “Fresh Juice” goes hard with some heavily textured synths and deep down low bass, plus some of TroyBoi’s iconic drum work and a melody to bind it all together. TroyBoi’s influence is very noticeable, as the drop features eerie Middle Eastern-inspired vocal swells. The Candy series began in 2017 when Louis The Child dropped the first installation, a 25-minute-long compilation filled with more than 20 of the duo’s unreleased samples and tracks, released exclusively on SoundCloud. If this new pair of tracks is any indication, fans should be in for a wild ride when the Candy II project is released in full. Check out “Fresh Juice” below!
