Breakthrough artist Phrva and his brand new Crave EP are here, and here to stay – and the music backs the hype from his infamous Soundcloud flips, having garnered over 1.5 Million listens in the short time that he has been on the map. This LA-based artist debuted in late 2023 and has soared to become one of the most exciting new names of the year, having crashed into the public eye with a series of bold remixes of classics from EDM superstars such as Nero, Ellie Goulding, and many more.
Having garnered support from Subtronics, Four Tet, Zeds Dead, Subtronics, Peekaboo, and Gryffin, the Phrva project is truly booming and capturing more and more space on fans’ playlists. On his debut Crave EP, fresh blood was spilled last week on the fan-favorite label of Wubaholics, whose releases have broken the internet over and over again with tunes from Tape B, VLCN, ALLEYCVT, Austeria, Steller, Flozone and loads more.
Such a label is the perfect home for this hypnotically curated debut EP, boasting a brooding sound design and dark soundscapes, and serves as the connective homage to Phrva’s recent support slots on key Tape B dates at The Cargo Concert Hall in Reno, and at the renowned Mission Ballroom in Denver, an artist whom the label has championed to a household name through years of releases and management.
Consider Us Addicted
Here’s What Phrva had to say on his explosive new debut:
“‘Crave’ is my first original project, and I hope that it shows the scope of what I’m aiming to achieve with my music. At the core, Phrva is all about following a feeling and groove and not overthinking it, and the tracks on this project were all created with that mentality”. – Phrva
Let’s give in to our cravings and break down the three-track project and dive into Phrva’s Crave EP.
“It Is All”
Introducing us to this Wubaholics-worthy EP, “It Is All” is an epic initial epoch for the series. Featuring tastefully placed ethereal acapellas, dark vocal echoes, and wobbling bass hits, this is the perfect start to the EP. Phrva curates a wholly hypnotic piece, locking you into its entrancing jaws and pushing you to continue on to the next heavy-hitting track.
“More”
We can’t handle much “More.” This track features grimy yet haunting vocal samples followed by dancey basslines that’ll keep your head bouncing and feet tapping to the rising melody, cracking through the thick suspense ushered in by the low-end expertise. Tastefully pitched snares spice the track up to a rise and fall, keeping listeners on edge from start to finish with an otherworldly ambient backtrack.
“Mind”
A signature Phrva vocal whispers a simple, single word as we take off, and affirms a highlighted feature throughout this EP. “Mind ” smashes into our brains with digitized arpeggio scales and firm breaks, carrying us to the final boss – oscillating layered basses that create a deepened level of interest, “absolutely blowing my mind” with this energy-packed heater, marking a conclusion to this explosive debut EP.
