Portland, Oregon-based underground bass producer POP THA TRUNK has officially unleashed his new heavy-hitting EP “UNLEADED.” He draws influence from genres like trap, 140, phonk, and drum & bass to create his own distinctive sound. POP THA TRUNK has been supported by other heavy-weight producers in the bass scene like Saka, FLY, EPROM, and Monty, and released a guest mix on Ravenscoon’s “In The Nest” series. He’s also played festivals like Freaky Deaky Portland and Shambhala and has an upcoming performance at The Untz festival this May.
The first track of the UNLEADED EP is “MARBROLO MAN. “ It starts with a melodic, spacey intro that leads into a hard-hitting bass line that takes a classic West Coast bass style and combines it with innovative sound design. Combining mellow atmospheres and crunchy wubs that create a dynamic and fun listening experience.
“MACH PUNCH” (feat. Depths) has another sound-system-oriented bass line with phonk melodies interspersed throughout the track. The mix of different genres is refreshing and keeps the listening experience fresh through its entirety.
“THREE.POINT.FIVE” features distorted, crunchy basses that create a heavier, more driving feel than the first two songs. The track introduces a new style that still resonates with the rest of the EP while bringing in some fresh influences.
“IGNORANT” is another phonk-influenced tune that showcases more of that West Coast bass flair woven throughout. We love to see POP THA TRUNK deliver his refreshing spin on this caliber of bass music and show how he’s carving out his own creative, individual lane with his UNLEADED EP.
