Underground bass music is booming in the U.S. and artists like Viskus are at the heart of the movement. He’s been dropping filthy collabs and experimental heaters that demand your attention. His latest two-track EP is not to be ignored, and once you listen, it will be an instant addition to your playlists. “Ice On My Neck and “I Need To Hear It” in collaboration with Xenotype, mark Viskus’s newest project.

Nicholas Krauskoff, aka Viskus, has been immersed in the EDM scene since his first show in 2011 and has been producing music for over a decade now. Along the way, he’s worked with a wide range of labels like Wakaan, Wubaholics, Spicy Bois, Aspire Higher, and Circus Records. Viskus is catching eyes and ears in the underground bass scene, recently hitting 12k followers on SoundCloud this month. Heard It Here First has previously teamed up with him, releasing a dubstep-heavy HIHF guest mix.

Viskus also appeared on Episode 36 of In The Nest on Ravenscoon Radio, throwing down another massive bass mix that includes some unreleased tracks, so keep your ears open for jams you haven’t heard before. More recently, earlier this year, the talented producer released the electric single Pinball.

The track “I Need To Hear It”  is a collaboration with Xenotype, an up-and-coming space bass producer coming out of Atlanta. Their styles blend together to make a dynamic experimental bass hit. The track opens with atmospheric, spacey synths and a hypnotic vocal loop, which guides the listener into a gripping bassline.

The EP’s release is a sizeable milestone in Viskus’s music career, as it is being released by the legendary Circus Records. For Viskus, this marks a full-circle moment — Circus Records held one of the first dubstep events he ever attended, setting the stage for his journey into the dubstep world.

Circus Records has played an extremely significant role in shaping the U.S. EDM scene. Founded in 2009 by Flux Pavilion and Doctor P, the label set out to build a community centered around live music and dubstep dance floor bangers. Known for their signature bassline hooks, Circus Records has dropped over five hundred releases since 2010.

“Ice On My Neck” starts up with a revolving semi-muted bass. Then, the atonal beeping leads listeners into a distorted bassline infused with chopped-up vocals. One of my favorite aspects of this new grimey trap hit is Viskus’s well-placed rests in the arrangement, giving the bass maximum impact when they do hit.

Check out what Viskus had to say about this newest EP:

“This release is an absolutely monumental moment for my project. My first dubstep show as a fan, was a Circus Records take over. This was my first time ever hearing anything like wonky dubstep back in like 2011. I left that show obsessed, and fully inspired to learn how to create what I had just experienced. Having my music now being hosted by that label 14 years later, is so surreal to even be experiencing. I’m extremely appreciative of their team for working with me, and supporting my project through this release.” – Viskus
