Vancouver-based Producer/DJ Poni has returned to the bass scene with her third EP — a project that pushes the boundaries of her artistry further than ever before. Out now on Kayzo‘s Welcome Records, the four-track Darkest Hour EP fuses emotional vulnerability with hard-hitting, festival-ready production, blending elements from multiple genres into something uniquely her own.
From the opening intro to the final note, this EP dives headfirst into the darker corners of the artist psyche, delivering a sound that’s both raw and relentless. It’s a journey that feels deeply personal, yet still angry enough to headbang to. With influences from Heavy Metal, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat, Dubstep, and more, this record feels absolutely one of a kind.
Since the start of her project in 2020, Poni has consistently evolved with every release. From her early flips of artists such as XXXTENTACION, FKA Twigs, Blanke and Grimes, or originals that boast her own impressive vocal performances, Poni is becoming known for her unwavering commitment to experimentation and artistic growth. She is clearly never afraid to take risks or challenge expectations, and that’s exactly what we hear on Darkest Hour.
When asked about her take on the EP, Poni had this to share:
“Every track on Darkest Hour is a snapshot of what it feels like to be completely consumed by the shadows…Lyrically raw and sonically powerful, it’s the sound of coming face to face with our darkest places.” -Poni
Poni is definitely an up-and-comer to keep an eye on. Her recent HIHF guest mix for us was full of heat, and she has been seen opening for major acts lately, including legends like REZZ and Adventure Club. With the release of Darkest Hour, it’s clear that Poni isn’t just chasing trends – she’s creating her own lane.
