As two members of Illenium‘s live band, there was seemingly no better place to unveil the new Dab The Sky single “Hero” than in an impromptu B2B opener set for Illenium’s own Madison Square Gardens mega-show back in September. The collaborators, Dabin and Said the Sky, already have a strong rapport outside of the Illenium crew as evidenced by their successful 2018 single “Superstar,” the initial debut of the joint-moniker’s musical alliance. As did the previous single, “Hero” blends the styles of the two solo artists well with the mid-tones of Dabin’s guitar evident from the intro measures of the track and the popular, polished dance-party vibes shining through the symphonic build to the song’s sweeping chorus notes. Olivver the Kid provides vocal support on the track with his melancholy, indie approach complimenting the positive but down-tempo sounds floating through the backtrack. The track builds to the monumentally overdriven guitar solo supplementing the perhaps pop-traditionalist composition of the tune, but this adherence will likely be a boon to their chances of cementing “Hero” as a top-40 electro-pop anthem.
