Heard It Here First put out our official pregame playlist earlier this year at the beginning of the summer. Today, we’ve recruited the talents of DMV up and coming DJ/Producer Adam Kahati to craft an epic new pregame mix for us.

Kahati has provided opening support for huge names in the past like Martin Garrix, Cheat Codes, K?d, and the Two Friends. He also had the opportunity to play Firefly Music Festival (pictured below) earlier on in 2019.

We had the chance to sit down with Adam to chat about his plans for the rest of the year. Enjoy the brand new pregame mix and our conversation with Adam Kahati below!

H: How did you get your start with electronic music?

A: Back when I was a senior in high school we had to do this “senior year experience.” It was basically either an internship in a field you wanted to pursue or a project with a teacher. I was in the band room and I recently downloaded logic pro 9 after playing around on garage band for a few weeks and asked my teacher if it was cool if I did my project with him for my senior year experience. He said it was cool and the rest is history.

When did you know you loved the music vs. wanted to start producing?

I always loved music. I’ve been playing the piano ever since like 4/5. Funny though, when I was little I was always way more oriented towards sports and all but then when I first opened garage band back in high school and started messing around, I realized I really had way more of a passion with production and making my own music. I barely play sports now lol because I just lock myself in my room all day to make music but I’m so fine with that.

You’ve opened for some of the biggest names in dance music, which was the most special?

I just played a show at Echostage in DC with Martin Garrix and that was probably the best show I’ve played for sure. The crowd was so into it and I just worked right off their energy. Garrix was even so dope to come over to say hi to me after my set and that meant a ton to me. Kudos to the dude to making it to the top, he for sure deserves it.

You studied abroad and even played PSG’s Abroadfest. What was your favorite club while you were over there? Feel free to shout out a few.

So I studied in Florence, but I did get the opportunity to play over in Barcelona at PSG’s Abroadfest. It was actually unreal and I felt cool and all getting to sell the ticket I originally bought back before I left for abroad. The clubs over in Barcelona are crazy- they for sure know how to party. But over in Florence, I have to shout out the Club Space for having me and playing a few shows over there.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations within dance music?

There are so many producers out there that I love and get inspired by daily but some of the biggest have to be Louis the Child, Kasbo, and Lost Kings.

What about outside the genre? Other musicians?

Outside the genre I gotta go with Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, The Band CAMINO, The Maine, All Time Low and honestly so much more but if I listed them all this would be an essay.

Who would you say you look up to outside of the music world?

I know this sounds cliché because probably a lot of people say this, but my dad is truly a huge inspiration. His whole life he worked his ass off in whatever he did. It really showed me that nothing in life comes easy – if you want something, you better go out and work for it. I keep that mentality every day while producing and while I’m not because this world is all about working hard.

What are you watching right now?

So, don’t make fun of me but I did just finish Breaking Bad. I have a problem with sitting still and watching TV shows haha I don’t know I guess they’re just not for me. But I do watch countless hours of YouTube of the most random things possible probably every day.

What else do you have on tap for 2019 and what can fans expect from you in 2020?

For the rest of 2019, expect a few remixes coming out as well as some more originals. I’ll be playing more shows and then just more and more music!!

Thanks so much, Adam, for taking some time to sit down with us and of course for the bangin’ new pregame mix! Be sure to show him some love on socials below.
