Madeonhas consistently had a career that is, dare I say, ahead of himself. The French producer/DJ had racked up production credits for artists in the league of Lady Gaga and Coldplay all before releasing his debut album Adventure at the age of 20.
His Shelter Live Tour alongside friend and fellow producer Porter Robinson – culminating at Coachella 2017 – brought with it an innovative set design and performance ideas with the two DJs giving vocal performances throughout the shows. His recent masterpiece of a Sophomore album, Good Faith, debuted little over a month ago to the fanfare with its four lead singles charting in the Top 40 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic charts.
Enter Dion Timmer: a fervent, young DJ from the Netherlands. Dating back to online collaborations with Excision beginning in 2016, Timmer hasshared a similar trajectory to Madeon. His motivation has shined through in his music and attracted the attention of impressive collaborators. In 2019 alone, he exchanged sounds with Excision, Zeds Dead, and Virtual Riot amongst a wide array of other artists.
Timmer’s latest remix of Madeon’s anthem “All My Friends” is emphatically refreshing and indicates a parallel passion to the likes that we saw in the budding career of Madeon himself. Straying from the downtempo pop influences of the original track, the remix rendition is frantic and spritely: the fast-paced percussion and high-pitched vocals come together in a fantastic fashion reminiscent of a dizzying challenge deep in the Dance Dance Revolution catalog. The drop in the latter half blends these innovative musical ideas with a more traditional dubstep feel, but the remix assuredly speaks more to Timmer’s sound than it hearkens back to the original.
With 2020 mere weeks away, it is only a matter of time before we see what this forward-thinking producer has in store for the world!
