Evalution has been everywhere as of late. The artist has released on Excision‘s Subsidia Records, Jauz‘s Bite This label, as well as underground hubs like Wubaholics and Headbang Society. He’s shared the stage with huge names like Steve Aoki, 12th Planet, Subtronics, Ookay, Boogie T, and Kill The Noise, and now he’s going to be gracing HIHF’s Cabin Fever Festival/Fundraiser.
He also just played Sunset Music Festival and crushed the side stage. We hosted him back in 2020 for an epic guest mix that fused tons of dubstep with nostalgic, classic rock hits. Enjoy our conversation with the rising star below.
H: Who are some of your biggest inspirations in the bass and dubstep world?
My inspirations have evolved a lot, but getting into the game I was heavily inspired by Boogie T, Blunts & Blondes, and GRiZ. The way they’ve formed such a distinct style is what always drew me to them and I think it’s an amazing accomplishment to carve out that lane for yourself as an artist. Sound design-wise I’ve also been inspired a lot by Sully, TVBOO, and Superave. Those 3 make some of craziest basslines and the way they flow every piece together is beyond impressive.
H: Obviously, you have a big love for classic rock, who did you listen to growing up?
I was big into that 60’s era of classic rock so I’d say mainly The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, The Stones. I was also really inspired by that 80’s era of hard rock like Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, R.E.M. etc. That’s pretty much what I listened to 24/7 growing up!
H: Tell us about performing at Sunset Music Festival a few weekends ago?
It was unreal! It was my first time performing at a festival and to get to do it in front of my hometown crowd was more than I ever could’ve asked for. They also put me right before Trivecta’s special tribe set, so the tent I was playing at was completely packed out!
H: Any exciting upcoming collabs or projects you can tell us about?
For projects, I can say I have a new track dropping at the end of June, one in July, and a 3 track EP on one of my favorite labels coming in August! As far as collaborations, not any that I can share, however, I can say that I have a punk rock/bass banger in the works with one of my favorite producers who inspired me early on in the game!
H: What’s in store for Evalution for the rest of 2021?
Pretty much just working on new music to send out to labels and further developing my sound! Lots of music releases planned in the coming months and lots of upcoming out-of-state gigs including Alabama, Indiana, California!
H: What can fans expect from your Cabin Fever Festival set?
I took a different approach with this one and I wanted to make it consist of only my productions! So it’ll be somewhat of a showcase of my favorite releases so far, as well as 8 new ID’S and 2 unreleased remixes!
H: What’s one hobby fans wouldn’t know about you if they didn’t ask? Maybe a cool fact or interest?
Not sure if this is a hobby but I’m pretty obsessed with my dog lol I have a red golden retriever who just turned a year old, so I love taking him to the dog park and going on long walks! He’s so well behaved and will literally just sit at my feet all day while I produce music so I definitely lucked out!
H: What do you want your fans to know about your music and the Evalution project in general?
Nothing specifically other than the fact that I’m really excited to get all of this music released in the coming months and I’m pumped to keep creating music for the rest of my life! My style is really starting to come together and I can finally feel it when listening to these newer tunes! There’s also a lot of out-of-state gigs coming up and I’ll be playing in venues/cities for the first time, so if you want to see me in your city, reach out to your local promoters! Thank you guys for tuning in!
Thanks so much to Evalution for chatting with us and be sure to catch his Cabin Fever Festival set next Thursday, June 17th.
