Nautical Divine is the musical moniker of David James Allison, an electronic music creator out of Minnesota. His work as Nautical Divine takes influence from styles of all sorts of electronic genres, ranging from DnB to Dubstep to Glitch and Neuro-Funk. He’s received support and recognition from artists and labels like Noisia, Ternion Sound, TRUTH‘s Deep, Dark & Dangerous, and Hypho‘s Manuka Plates record label.

Crafting dubious, otherworldly soundscapes is what this artist truly excels at, drawing listeners in more and more with each and every multi-faceted creation he unveils. Today, Nautical Divine is letting his fans in even deeper, on the Below EP, sharing his vulnerable self and reflecting on his past battles with addiction. Each track on Below is a testament to his journey and struggles with recovery, but also to his solace in his own creativity.

Showcasing a range of UK-inspired 140 dubstep, the Below EP contains four new glorious masterclasses of bass music for us to bask in. We can’t wait to hear these rinsed on a proper sound system, but for now, let’s break down each track one by one.

Starting things off is the title track, “Below.” It kicks the EP off with a bang, harnessing that deep bass-powered sound Nautical Divine has become so familiar with. It’s gritty and hard, the perfect track to demolish sound systems this coming festival season.

Next up is “Guardian,” which is another “punch a hole in the wall” type beat. Starting out dark and brooding, it eventually breaks down into a bassface-inducing masterclass of sound. We could even see this one being dropped by more mainstream artists like REZZ or Illenium, with its hypnotic reverberations.

Following that is “Faceless,” a more broad, experimental soundscape. This track would create the perfect backdrop for an extraterrestrial space voyage, entrancing listeners into an otherworldly state of being.

The EP’s final track, Delve, holds an ethereal, natural energy, boasting both heavy bass elements and hypnotic chords to put you in the right headspace. It also has a beautiful music video, featuring some seriously impressive dance moves, to correspond with the closing track. You can check that video out here, created alongside DUAL Studios & Alan Mure.

Here’s what Nautical Divine had to say about the Below EP as a whole:

“Immersing myself in the depths of 140 dubstep, I found inspiration from artists like Ternion Sound and labels such as DDD and Duploc. Under the guidance of Andrew from Ternion Sound, I explored new soundscapes, honing my unique approach to sound design.” – Nautical Divine
