*UPDATE* Less than 48hrs later, Skrillex released the follow-up album, Don’t Get Too Close, which featured Kid Cudi, Chief Keef, Yung Lean, Bladee, and tons of other talented collaborators. It’s poppier and less bass-heavy, but still-jam packed with hits. Check that out here*

There are some artists whose music you listen to and it brings back those early memories of when you first got into the dance music scene. Back in 2012-2013, when tracks like “Bangarang,“Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites,” and “Kyoto” were rinsed out at shows and festivals across the globe non-stop. That’s right, we’re talking about the one and only, Skrillex. A legend in his own name, from being the frontman for the punk band From First To Last to becoming a pivotal part of the Dubstep scene under the Skrillex alias.

On top of the Skrillex project, he also joined forces with Boyz Noise to form Dog Blood. Over the course of his career, he has created and remixed some of the most legendary tracks in the early dubstep days, paving the way and opening the door to a new side of the beloved genre. After working with Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, J Balvin, and some of the other biggest popstars in the world, there’s no doubt about it. Skrillex has always been a staple of electronic music, and for most people in the scene, this will always ring true.

His creativity has only expanded and grown since the early days, and his recent releases prove that, including the highly sought-after trackRumble” with Fred Again.. and Flowdan. To top it off, since the first of the year, Skrillex has slowly been releasing tracks with huge names in all across genre lines, like PinkPanthress, Trippie Redd, Bobby Raps, and more. Skrill has been hinting at a new album with different posts across his social feeds. Last weekend, he finally spilled the beans, posting on his socials a Basement Set mini mix, where listeners could hear tracks off the brand new album – Quest For Fire.

Quest For Fire is also the first of two promised albums from Skrillex this year, boasting a setlist online of other collaborators like Kid Cudi and the aforementioned Trippie Redd and PinkPanthress.

Today, February 17th, the first of the two albums is finally here. We are still barely fresh into 2023 and this is without a doubt set to be one of the biggest releases so far. Not only just for the fact this is the first album he’s put out since Recess in 2014, but for the incredible collaborators on the project as well. It’s incredible to see so many different tastemakers from all sorts of music genres coming together and combining their talents. Artists like Missy Elliot, Porter Robinson, Four Tet, Peekaboo, the list goes on and on.

The list of collaborators on Quest For Fire is unreal and truly showcases the individuality of each and every artist on the project. Listeners will more than likely recognize “Rumble..” with Fred again.. and Flowdan, as well as “Supersonic (my existence)” with Noisia, josh pan, and Dylan Brady.

A few other noteworthy tracks are “RATATA” with Missy Elliott, “Tears” with Joker and Sleepnet, “Inhale, Exhalewith Aluna and Kito, and “Good Space” with Starrah. Overall, the genre versatility and uniqueness of the album are sure to have people talking. It’s honestly like Skrillex never even left. He’s putting on a clinic for the whole scene to enjoy and admire. Hopefully, this will inspire tons of creative and forward-thinking electronic music produced throughout the community!
