St. Louis isn’t a city you would expect to put out top rap talent, but River City via Chicago rapper Smino isn’t typical. Inspired by his family’s involvement in the blues scene (his grandfather was a bassist for Muddy Waters), his music is soulful and funky, defying trends in modern rap.

NOIR, the rapper’s second studio, is less serious than his debut Blkswn. On this project, he plays with different flows, voices and characters to express himself. His lyrical athleticism is remarkable, with tongue twister rhymes delivered in rapid time.
