21-year-old classically trained multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Steve James is rising into the spotlight as one of pop music’s most promising artists. Through his Grammy-nominated production skills, he’s established an impressive catalogue of credits including Justin Bieber, Bebe Rexha, and Little Mix, and collaborated with DJs such as Martin Garrix. After his remix of ZHU’s “Faded” gained rapid popularity in 2015, Steve left his hometown in Pennsylvania and moved west to LA. Currently, he hopes to further transition from a producer to a performing artist.
Steve recently dropped his upbeat track “fall for you,” the lead single to his forthcoming debut +one EP. Now, he shares a beautiful orchestral video of the track, out now on Youtube via Casablanca Records. In this instrumental version, Steve illustrates his musical versatility, and the orchestra’s word painting emphasizes the most vulnerable moments of the track. His choice to perform an orchestral version of “fall for you” reveals a mature pop artist with rawness, authenticity, and heart.
“Many people have told me since I was 14 [that] they can hear the ‘heart’ in what I’ve released. That really stuck with me and it’s a big reason why it’s so important to me for everything about this to be personal and authentic. I’m in the process of releasing singles that lead up to an EP…I’ve always loved my own music but there was something off about the process before, and it’s taken me time to find the right way. I’m so lucky to have written ‘fall for you’ with my best friends in London on a trip I’ll never forget. One where I found myself.” – Steve James
With a double-platinum single now in his production repertoire, he hopes to focus his energy on his own music for a bit, as he is “starting to love his voice.” We can expect his next single “Missing You” featuring K-pop superstar Eric Nam to be released on 5/31.
