SubDocta is one of our favorite rising Bass producers at Heard It Here First. We’ve been covering him since last summer and I’m so happy to see him booked on huge festival lineups like Freaky Deaky, Ever After, and even Lost Lands.
We recently brought you SubDocta’s collaboration with NOLA up and comer Bàwldy, and his West Coast Wobble EP was one of our favorite projects of 2018. SubDocta already released one EP in 2019 and has two more on the way. He’s also playing around with one of our all-time favorite Zeds Dead tracks, “In The Begining“, and shared his progress to his socials. Can’t wait to see him drop this one come festival season!

We had the pleasure of sitting down to chat with SubDocta to share a bit of his story with our readers. Check it out!
H: Who are a couple of your biggest inspirations? How about a few outside of the electronic industry?
S: The early stuff for sure. Rusko, Giant, Ganja White Night, Skream, Distance, Joker, etc. Today it is the same but I’d throw in Break, Mefjus, Enei, Icicle, Dirt Monkey, and honestly all my friends. As far as outside the industry, I only listen to Rock and Indie when I’m not making music, so I don’t get too heavily influenced by others. AFI, Arctic Monkeys, Silversun Pickups, Incubus, etc.
What/Who are you listening to right now?
My friends mostly. I rarely dig for tunes anymore. Dirt Monkey, DMVU, sfam, Eazybaked, Ganja White Night, Peekaboo, etc. I did recently discover Pane Mua and was blown away.
You gave fans a taste of your Rock side with BREAK — Any more tracks like that coming up?
Not at the moment. It was really fun so I’d def like to in the future!
Any upcoming collabs you can tell us about?
Too many to list. But they’re fun!
What was it like opening up for Excision?
Super wild! I’ve been listening to him for damn near 10 years so it was def an honor.
You’re playing Lost Lands this year? What was getting that call like?
Really exciting! I call it the Dubstep Superbowl so to be included feels really good 🙂
Thanks so much for speaking with us Preston!
