Phrey (pronounced FREE) is a Michigan native that has always had a deep passion for the unique worlds that come with electronic music. While he spent his formative years in North Carolina, learning and perfecting his craft, moving back to Michigan in 2020 helped him to flourish as an artist even more. Now, this tastemaker is ready to dive head first into his passions and is sharing with the world his debut EP – Voices.

Voices is a three-track EP that highlights Phrey’s abilities to create an array of different emotional soundscapes, mixed with frequencies that will captivate dance floors and get listeners moving.

The EP starts off with “Euphonious,” a track representing the Yin and Yang we face in life, a balance of light and dark. The vocal undertones are woven seamlessly throughout its bass line, painting vivid pictures of worlds where the sun peaks through and feels like hope is on the horizon.

Next up is “Raucous,” a bouncy little number that shows off Phrey’s more energetic side of the project. The deep, yet smooth bass deserves to be played on a proper system, quaking a room and getting people dancing.

Wrapping up Voices is “Conversation,” and just like the name implies, this one is meant to feel like an open back-and-forth chat between two humans who are being vulnerable and sharing spaces, through its lighthearted elements and more ethereal vocals. Of course, everyone will take away something different from this track, but it felt like sitting in a forest, getting lost within the sounds of nature and the person with whom that space is being shared. It’s the perfect way to tie together everything that was shared and heard on Phrey’s new EP. Here’s what he had to say about his debut project and the meaning behind the art:

I choose this idea because I really love the flower of life. It to me represents so many things in this world. It almost feels like a visual language that nature and things around us use to communicate, the building blocks to everything. The connection to “Voices” being that it’s what speaks to me without words. Similarly, with the EP it’s titled “Voices”. With each song, there are no real words just lots of different vocal tones, shouts, and breaths. The music is aimed to speak to you! Along with all the other warped details in the artwork I just tried to make something that felt like the music you are listening to from the color palette to the hidden aspects of the 1s & 0s. That last touch is to represent another side to the flower of life because you can also break that down into a mathematical code, as everything around us can be. So it’s kinda hidden “running in the background” as you could say…

Very blessed to have such a talented individual help provide the first media write-up done for “Phrey ” this project was a labor of love. I’ve really waited a long time to put my first EP out because I wanted it to craft something that not only had a vision but was also done with as much professionalism as possible. Thank you all for taking the time to listen, I love you all!!! – Phrey

If Phrey is not yet on your radar, be sure to change that ASAP, especially for those that are in the Detroit area. The future is bright for this artist and there is so much more to come. But for now, stream Voices below and let us know which tracks were your favorites in the comments!
