ENiGMA Dubz is no stranger to The Black Box and Sub.mission family, and over the year’s he’s been smashing the main room with his arsenal of creations. This past set on Friday, September 22nd was especially special because it was a launch party for his latest full-length, Mixtape 1: #Heaters release, which had also been released that same day on his imprint Morri Records. It was an even bigger celebration because one of the tracks off the album, “You Are Not A Badman” with Hypho and PAV4N, landed an upload on UKF’s YouTube channel (a first for Morii Records).
So the excitement for the evening was already high, especially with the rest of the lineup playing alongside ENiGMA Dubz, which included Medicine Place, and Dizzy. I had the pleasure of covering the evening, read on, and find out a little more about what went down.
There’s no greater feeling than arriving at a venue and hearing the music rattling from outside as you make your way to the doors. Once we made it inside, we headed into the main room as a local resident was getting the evening started and getting the audience warmed up for the night’s festivities. Shortly after, Dizzy took the stage and the room began filling up. His set was incredible and showcased his ability to seamlessly weave from track to track, sharing with the audience in everyone’s love for these beloved genres.
Following Dizzy, was Medicine Place (one of my current favorites), and as per usual, he brought the heat. He played one of his latest “drunk dub | id vip (medicine place script)” and the crowd went wild. The Widdler rinsed this track out earlier this summer at Bass Canyon and getting to hear it in person was truly a real treat. For anyone unfamiliar with Medicine Place, we highly recommend checking out his music, he’s an exceptionally talented rising producer and deserves every ounce of success that is coming his way.
Finally, it was time for ENiGMA Dubz, he made his way onto the stage and the hooting and hollering began. Anytime I’ve been lucky enough to catch a set of his at The Black Box, he’s blown me away every single time, and this night was no exception. His shows have always been a journey, whether it be through more of his emotive tunes, or the heaters, like this past one. With this being a listening party for the Heaters Mixtape, it was especially wild. On top of him being an incredible artist, he’s also one of the most humbling people around. ENiGMA Dubz loves connecting with his fans and was sitting in the main room before his set, selling merch and chatting with everyone.
This past set was definitely among my top favorites; between the track selections, his energy the way he connects with his audience, the energy from everyone in the crowd, it was such a fun set to be part of. As stated before, he always takes fans on a journey, it feels like every set tells a different story, and this set was a story of heaters.
For anyone who has not yet checked out his latest release, we highly recommend doing so. It’s a collection of collaborations between him and other tastemakers like Hypho and PAV4N, Nika D and Virus Syndicate, MYTHM, Bommer, Wraz., and many more. Highlighting the worlds of producers and vocalists coming together to create smashing tunes that are meant to be played on a proper sound system, this is a must-listen for our readers.
