Accompanying the transition into the autumn equinox, rising star bass producer, Mystyk Forest ushers us into the spirit of transformation with his latest spellbinding three-track ensemble, Changes. The second piece of a quadripartite seasonal EP release through his collaborated collective Corn Bois. Not only is his stage presence unmistakable, recognizable for his ghillie suit attire, but his production prowess is quickly becoming recognized across the industry.

As of late, his submission to Home Bass Record’s 2023 DJ Contest has earned him his spot performing on their all-star lineup. With each release, he highlights his ability to master each sub-genre of bass music and incorporate his own unique sound design using every tool at his disposal. With this new project, Mystyk Forest takes listeners on a captivating journey embodying the shift from summer to fall.

The introductory track, “Arps and 808s”, sets the mood by introducing a soothing mystical harmony that leads into an irresistible fusion of glitchy bass and hard-hitting synths that immediately draws any true bass enthusiast in. The contrast of the ethereal ambient sounds with the intricate experimental bass tones encompasses the overall earthly feeling of metamorphosis. Each element introduced plays off of one another creating a haunting composition that awakens your spirit and leaves us wanting more.

“Mountain Madness” employs the multi-instrumentalist and HIHF favorite G-Space, as they combine forces to take listeners deeper into the Changes EP’s sonic exploration. This profoundly entrancing piece opens with echoed vocal chops by Mystyk Forest combined with chopped reverb, stutter bass, and a hi-hat lead melody pushing the composition towards the initial frog bass drop. Together, the duo curates a dynamic audio experience layered with infectious distorted synths, before circling back to the chorus. The diverse musical arrangement is complemented by the conclusion’s ear-pleasing revving bass, establishing the sonic transformative theme of the EP.

True in title and in lyrics, “Best For Last”, empathetically concludes the Changes EP’s musical voyage, showcasing Mystyk Forest’s visionary talent as his effervescent vocals guide us through the lush soundscape. Time stands still as the melancholic chorus and the revving bass tones lead into the piece’s poetic glitchy climax alluding to the tonality of the rest of the track.

This ensemble’s masterful production at first listen pierces beyond just experiencing music, but also invites introspection and connection while displaying Mystyk Forest’s extraordinary talent. Here’s what Mystyk Forest had to say about his Changes EP:

“I want each seasonal EP to encapsulate the emotion and inspiration I experience from each season. I aimed for this EP to represent the drastic internal and external change experienced during this time of the year…” – Mystyk Forest
