PTCHWRK and Ch3mistree meet in the middle to ride a consciously curated wave of downtempo groove in their collaborative Sumitra EP released through the label, Timewheel. The Long Island natives converge their sonic stylings to concoct a metaphysical body of work that converges meditative frequencies with complex, original sound design. The Sumitra EP synchronizes PTCHWRK’s explorative downtempo endeavors and Ch3mistree’s ambient tendencies to form a harmonious standalone two-track project.

The first track off of the EP, “Sharing”, welcomes listeners to surrender themselves to PTCHWRK and Ch3mistree’s hypnotizing and ethereal melodies. The piece opens with a transcendent harmony, transporting us to a foreign realm of ambient low-end frequencies. The pair employ a combination of synths, deep wobbles, and perfectly placed reverb to bolster the track’s effervescent sound design. As we push past the crescendo, the track highlights Ch3mistree’s gift for manipulating a downtempo sonic aura fused with PTCHWRK’s arsenal of unorthodox sound design. Together, the multifaceted duo leaves us with a mystifying display of creative ingenuity.

The title track of the EP, “Sumitra”, opens with a symphony of cicadas detailed by airy synth chords that maneuver listeners down an ominous path of downtempo experimentation and into the core of the Sumitra EP. Tides of deep synth waves progress the tune into the second verse, where the duo creates low-end wet bass to deliver some sub-shattering vibrations. “Sumitra” provides a hearty blend of atmospheric energy, free-flowing bass, and vocalizations which harness the magic that unfolds when PTCHWRK and Ch3mistree collide.

There is an undeniable synergy between PTCHWRK and Ch3mistree’s production styling that is everclear throughout the Sumitra EP. Each track offers us a glimpse into the musical minds of both artists and feeds off of their creative connections born out of mutual understanding. Though “Sharing” and “Sumitra” coexist in the same downtempo plane, each piece embodies its unique sound-stamp. This isn’t their first collaboration and after listening to the Sumitra EP, we can be sure it won’t be their last.
