Arkansas-based glitch hop maestro Flintwick unveiled his new Lurching EP just in time for festival season. This EP is a masterclass in neuro sound design, as these songs were meant to be blasted on loud festival speakers and are sure to be massive crowd-pleasers. The glitchy, effervescent textures pair perfectly with this EP’s gut-punching basslines. It’s a markedly different sound than we’ve expected from Flintwick, who’s made a name for himself by creating some of the most cerebral and experimental beats in the scene.

Lurching contains some of Flintwick’s most high-energy tracks, starting with the EP’s eponymous first track.“Lurching” employs a fluttering, darting bassline as the track jumps between half- and full-time beats, pleasantly distorting the listener’s sense of time. “Late Checkout” begins with a chunky neurohop beat before giving way to a comedic electric organ melody. It perfectly contrasts the deep, groovy opening beat as a sonic palette cleanser between basslines.

On “Facade,” Flintwick taps Arkansas vocalist Yongi for a dreamy, psychedelic romp. “Facade” utilizes softer pads and sustained bass synths to complement Yongi’s divine vocals. A melancholic strings arrangement rounds out this phenomenal bass music slow jam. Rounding out the EP is “MUCK,” a drum & bass arrangement employing fervent neuro bass and squelchy FX. The pitched-up vocal samples keep the mood light at the beginning of this track before giving way to a massive bassline.

Here’s what Flintwick had to say about releasing a more “main stage-friendly” sounding EP:

I’ve never been one to focus as much on bangin’ drums and chunkier grooves that typically appeal to a larger audience than past styles I’ve released, so I figured this would be my first attempt at dipping my toes in that water.”- Flintwick

Make sure to catch Flintwick at the ReJuvenation Resitval and Backwoods Music Festival this summer, and we hope to see him on numerous other lineups this year!
