If you have attended a bass show in 2022, chances are you may have heard a Hamdi song thrown into a set. This legend-in-the-making has quickly landed on the radars of dubstep and bass music enthusiasts all over the country here in the United States. The Oxford, England-based producer is back once again, delivering yet another speaker-knocking hit in “Discovery”, out now on Jadū Dala.
Summer festival season 2022 saw several of the biggest names in bass music and dubstep, Zeds Dead, GRiZ and Of The Trees just to name a few, drop Hamdi’s anthem “Skanka” in front of the masses. Heck, even Porter Robinson dropped it at his Wet Republic Ultra Pool set right before EDC Las Vegas. This song reignited what we love about dubstep and the response it has received thus far is a sign of great things to come. Fans have also been raving about his catchy edit of Sammy Virji’s“Never Let You Go”, which has been supported by big-name acts such as Subtronics and Baauer.
While fans are catching on to the wave of these popular hits, it’s important to note just how versatile Hamdi really is. We love the festival-ready dubstep anthems, but we also love to see his artistry on display in the form of UK Garage, Breakbeat, Grime, and even Trap. This blend of styles and sounds is why many say this is a can’t-miss, energetic thrill ride of an act in this quickly moving industry. His ability to move crowds and keep them engaged is something I hope we get to experience here in the States sometime real soon.
“Discovery” is the latest diamond from Hamdi’s vault, which has found a home on the always-forward-thinking label Jadū Dala. The track begins with Hamdi’s signature way of introducing a filtered version of the main lead that will eventually smack us in the main drop. The clever vocal sample of “Okay, so I figured out the key to immortality” is a fantastic way to set us up for an epic blastoff. And that’s exactly what he does. We are suddenly hit with Hamdi’s recognizable buzzy, zipper-like main bass leads with a powerful sub underneath. This bass journey is further complimented by some hard-hitting kicks and claps that keep us glued to the speakers all the way until the very end. We are truly thrown through the vortex with this one. Expect to hear “Discovery” rinsed in several upcoming sets this Fall.
