Abelation Collides With Bassrush Records For New EP "Solitary"

Hailing from Los Angeles, Abelation is the City of Angels’ low-end mastermind. His newest release is a four-track EP titled ‘Solitary’, delivered to us by Bassrush Records. ‘Solitary’ is a perfect blend of modern and old-school sounds with a twist meant to open up your mind. Each of the tunes on the EP falls into the deep dubstep genre, however, each song is produced with a variety of sounds within. Be prepared to be taken on a journey through grimy, soul-shaking, deep dubs blended seamlessly with gut-wrenching vocals and percussion.

The name behind the artist Abelation is Reese Downes, who is a very talented young individual we’ve had our eyes and ears on. At 13, he had already grown a strong interest in music. By age 15, he was introduced to electronic music by his older brothers. Reese possessed knowledge of sound theory and piano and used his Macbook to create his sounds. Abelation is known for his trap and dub influenced tracks.

This EP, Solitary, follows the recent single drop of “Dr.Walker” last month. This track is characterized by a variety of sounds, is the first on the album, and sets the tone for the entire piece of work. “Dr. Walker” is a great opening tune for the EP as it blends sounds, genres, percussion, and sequences all that push boundaries of ‘what should be’. Moving along to the next banger, “Dark Thoughts” follows. Low-end, grimy textures are paired with uneasy vocals and distortion to create a vibe that feels like the rave is in a haunted house.

The journey of the project takes the listener elsewhere with “Running This.” This piece of work was composed to be a straight dubstep banger. The opening pulls listeners in while the vocals and drops keep the listener immersed in the sound. A break in the track resets the energy before diving deep back into the brain-bending dubs. Nothing better to bring a journey to an end than a nice dose of “Destruction,” which is delivered to you from the final tune on the EP. “Destruction” is full of surprises and brings a sense of absolute darkness. “‘Solitary’ EP is an embodiment of my newer and older sounds mixed together. Since the creation of ‘Dr. Walker,’ I’ve always felt it belonged as a leading single in an EP. The next two singles I wrote later in time and the final tune earlier. I chose each song and their placement based on its vibe and energy.” — Abelation
