Buku is a must-see dubstep phenom, redefining the game with brain-melting soundscapes as he’s done for years. With his winter/spring tour just kicking off, Buku has just released his highly anticipated, The Unraveled Essence EP, on Of The Trees’ Memory Palace Label.

The Pittsburgh native is revered for throwing some of the dankest sets at festivals like Shambhala, Electric Forest, and Lost Lands. His ability to blend complex drum patterns with displaced low-end melodies forges an unforgettable experience for each sonic traveler and festival-goer. Although he’s been slaying the dubstep scene for over ten years, Buku is now showcasing his best set in ages.

Now that The Unraveled Essence has arrived, the six-track project merges bouncy OG dubstep sounds with intricate trance and trap beats. The EP concludes with a heartfelt tribute to the late fan-favorite bass icon, CharlesTheFirst, and showcases the bone-rattling sound evolution of Buku’s career. 

The EP comes out swinging with the first track, “TWM”, fusing a warbling garage bassline with melodic acid techno breaks, creating a truly spectacular auditory experience. Many may not know that Buku also experiments with other genres, whether in Buku sets or his side projects, including House, Trance, and Techno.

The inevitable emotional tribute song to CharlesTheFirst, “The First”, pays homage to the powerful era of music set forth by Charles and all of the artists crushing it today that he inspired. “The First” also displays Buku’s inexplicable capacity to deliver something new and hot on the scene with every release. While each song encapsulates a different feature of Buku’s wizard-like production capabilities, “You Know the Drill” truly takes the cake. The four-minute track is a tapestry, woven of fast chopped rhythms, fluttering high-end synths, and a rumbling bass that will surely give you a mean case stank face.
