A long-awaited cross-genre collaboration has been released, and it’s already making waves. “Heavy Heart”, the first single from Loco Dice’s upcoming 2025 album, has hit Spotify running with over 1.5 million streams in just under a month. The track showcases the power of global music, with Germany-based Loco Dice teaming up with U.S. bass icon Skrillex and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML to create a tech-house basement groove.

A Look at the Artists

Loco Dice has dominated the electronic music circuit since the early 2000s. Starting his career supporting rap legends like Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, Dice eventually found his calling in genres like house and techno. His career highlights include residencies at Ibiza’s iconic clubs such as Circoloco at DC-10 and Amnesia. His influence on techno includes tracks on labels like Ovum, Minus, Cocoon, and Cadenza, alongside remixes for renowned artists like Kevin Sanderson, Moby, Black Coffee, and Disclosure. Beyond music, Dice has made his mark in fashion, crafting runway soundtracks for Italian designer Marcelo Burlon during Men’s Fashion Week in Milan both FW20 and SS20. His streetwear clothing line, Serán Bendecidos, embodies his passion for unity, community, and freedom. 

Loco Dice establishes the darker, more underground tech-house vibe at the start of the hit “Heavy Heart”. Being in the music industry for over 2 decades it seems this tech-house jam “Heavy Heart” is a testament to his next step into the global music scene. Skrillex, the ever-evolving bass music legend, brings his signature flair to the new tech-house jam “Heavy Heart”. He remains a powerhouse in the electronic music scene with eighteen million monthly listeners on Spotify and more and more new music each year. This is not the first time Skrillex has dabbled in tech-house. In the past, Skrillex collabed with Boys Noize to form “Dog Blood”.  The side project “Dog Blood” collaborated with Ty Dollar Sign to create the banger “Midnight Hour” and the following Turn Off The Lights EP.

Fireboy DML’s feature in this tech house jam showcases DML’s lack of fear in experimenting and jumping genres. He typically releases in the afrobeats genre, well known for his smash hit “Peru,” which climbed to #2 on the UK charts, making waves globally. With “Heavy Heart” his music not only crosses borders but also crosses genres.

Track Breakdown

“Heavy Heart” opens with a long, tension-filled build-up, setting a dark, basement-ready tone. Loco Dice’s sounds are strongest here, with gritty textures and a steady high-hat groove leading into Fireboy DML’s vocals. Fireboy’s vocal presence adds an emotional depth to this tech-house jam. His confident and clean delivery, with lines like “I’ll give you all of my life, I’ll give you all of me,” cuts through the moody production, proving that aforementioned versatility.

Known for his ability to work in any genre he chooses, Skrillex’s influence in “Heavy Heart” can be felt thoroughly throughout the track, particularly in the last minute of this voyage of a collab. His signature chaotic, distinct stylings shine through vocal loops, electronic adlibs, and chopped-up melodies of Fireboy DML.
