New York-based Smokestaxshowcases his incredible versatility with his newest EP, All Night. He made a name for himself with tasteful dubstep, halftime, and downtempo beats under his rsrch chmcls alias, and this time around, he graces us with his take on UK Garage. This EP showcases his incredible songwriting prowess, as each track on the EP is an experiment in different styles of garage music, each displaying crisp sound design and astonishing precision in the mixes.
Smokestax kicks off the EP with “Run It Back,” a deep 2-step number with a clean, groovy bassline under chopped vocals.
“Stoppin’ Me” picks up the energy with a topline flute lead and dancier percussion. The bassline is incredibly infectious and playful, especially in the second drop.
“All Night Long” is dreamy and lush, employing a divine background vocal chorus over a soft, smooth bassline and beat. Various synths and vocal samples punctuate each drop to keep listeners’ feet moving.
All Night proves Smokestax can write incredibly well-mixed and written tunes in any genre he pleases. His output is downright staggering, releasing numerous singles and EPs in the past few years across several labels and self-releases.
He recently released music on Ganja White Night‘s label SubCarbon and on CloZee‘s Odyzey label’s most recent compilation. Under his rsrch chmcls alias, he played at The Rendezvous in 2024, headlined by Tipper.
