Atlanta native Nicole Garcia Barton, aka Zen Selekta, is an electrifying force of nature in her performances and production prowess. Every time Zen hits the stage, she ignites the crowd with her spellbinding discography combined with her explosive on-stage presence, making each live set an experience to remember. Zen Selekta’s appreciation for life’s little wonders is omnipresent in her music. Guided by her philosophy of spreading healing and light, Zen has used her platform and music to leave a one-of-a-kind mark on the electronic music scene. Last year, the Georgia producer delivered her insatiable sound to infamous venues and festivals nationwide, including Meow Wolf, Texas Eclipse, Electric Forest, Secret Dreams, Shambhala, and many more. The opening track of ‘The Mind Killer’ EP “Focus,” initiates listeners into the first step of the four-part journey by inviting us to retreat into a moment of stillness and meditation as Zen Selekta slowly builds a dynamic soundscape. “Focus” highlights the power of breathing while entrancing listeners with an ethereal melody that transports us from our humble surroundings to an inner tranquil world filled with low-pitched synths and calming instrumentals. “Focus”  perfectly sets the tone of the first step of ‘The Mind Killer EP: finding peace in the present moment.

The second piece of the four-track EP, “Mind Killer,” elevates us to the next stage of Zen Seleketa’s transformative journey: confronting our inner shadow and pushing past limiting fears. The ominous build-up prepares us for the growing swampy crescendo aided by the reminder of the mantra from Frank Herbert’s iconic novel Dune, “fear is the mind killer”. Zen Selekta manipulates quaking reverb, harminous vocals, and Eastern instrumental stylings, giving“Mind Killer” powerful soul-stirring depth.

“Break Free” sparks our inner fire by surrounding us in warm and uplifting sounds, calling our soul to welcome in our creative spirit. The track’s tantalizing resonance evokes a sense of rising into our highest self. The composition fuses rich sonic elements with an intense yet soothing melody, leaving us hypnotized by this third installment of ‘The Mind Killer’ EP.

Zen Selekta switches up the pace for the final piece of ‘The Mind Killer’ EP, “Feel Alive”, with a riveting drum-and-bass composition bursting at the seams with euphoric energy. “Feel Alive” uses its spirited rhythm and inspiring lyrics to round out ‘The Mind Killer’ EP’s voyage into the art of fully owning our spiritual power.
