Do you like music that makes you feel something, music that transcends time and space? If so, 9 Theory and Torii Wolf’s newest single, “Evaporate,” is exactly that. This collaboration blends Torii Wolf’s ethereal voice with 9 Theory’s silky chord progressions. It’s not their first time working together. The two have been friends for a while and they previously collaborated on the track “Children’s Play” .
Over the last two decades, 9 Theory’s love for guitar and songwriting evolved into a deep passion for music production. This path has led him to perform and work alongside outstanding artists such as Bonobo, Killer Mike, Inspectah Deck (of Wu-Tang Clan), Talib Kweli, Beats Antique, Champagne Drip, Thievery Corporation, Z-Trip, Emancipator, and CloZee. If you attended CloZee’s Microworlds tour, you may have caught 9 Theory performing on multiple tour dates.
Multi-genre producer, 9 Theory, fuses hypnotic soundscapes for his new collab “Evaporate“.
His eclectic taste and influences have shaped his distinctive production style. 9 Theory’s popular song, “Tangerine Sour” with Emancipator, recently surpassed ten million streams on Spotify. One of his latest singles, released in 2025, is an R&B/Soul track with Shea Givens titled “In the Morning.” His ability to fluidly blend multiple genres—hip-hop, indie rock, blues, and electronic—creates original soundscapes. His newest side project, Domoshay, perfectly showcases his versatility. Partnering with his childhood best friend, Dalton, whom he has known since age eleven, the Domoshay project carries a special significance. Their chemistry has been described as “If Khruangbin and LedZeppelin had a baby that was in Blur but mostly listened to classic rock and was equally obsessed with the blues and The Beatles” by 9 Theory himself. That description of Domoshay further exemplifies 9 Theory’s genre-bending artistry.
Soul-stirring vocals and raw emotion—Torii Wolf transcends boundaries in their new collab “Evaporate“.
Also residing in Los Angeles, California, Torii Wolf is an essential component of the upcoming collaborative full EP, Soft Realms. Their raw singer-songwriter style infuses their tracks with an emotional resonance that is difficult to replicate. This heartfelt harmony can be felt in Wolf’s latest 2025 single “Just Like You,“ which also features Xii. Creating a safe space for listeners to embrace their true inner selves—transcending the boundaries of the psyche—is a central theme within Wolf’s work.
“I want to use my music to build a safe space for people to feel.” – Torii Wolf
Wolf has collaborated with numerous esteemed artists, including Macklemore, Mike Zombie, Dilated Peoples, An-Ten-Nae, Rapsody, Maddy O’Neal, and DJ Premier. Not only have their talents led them to perform on international stages, but they have also contributed behind the scenes in production, shaping various media with their unique touch. Their work extends to video games, television series, films, trailers, and commercials, including a recent contribution to a Lexus Global Commercial in February 2025.
9 Theory’s multi-genre approach, combined with Torii Wolf’s cross-disciplinary experience, makes for a dynamic duo. Wolf’s angelic voice adds an emotional depth to “Evaporate,” making listeners shuffle subtly in their seats as though the music had seeped under their skin. This downtempo experimental journey begins with mesmerizing chords that flow into Wolf’s entrancing vocals. Lyrically, the track paints a picture of a mental odyssey; a battle between holding onto something that no longer serves them and the struggle to find the strength to let it go, yearning for it to simply “Evaporate.”
Check out what 9 Theory had to say about this new collaboration:
“Although Torii and I love the whole EP, this song is THE one. This is the first thing we show anybody when sharing our collaboration with people, and it is almost always the favorite of the four songs by the listener as well. “Evaporate” seems to perfectly capture that dark and cool mood we wanted for this project as we always kept the mantra “what would Radiohead do” in the forefront of our minds. Also the trippy background field recording throughout the song is me walking on a creaky bamboo bridge over a pond at a beautiful temple in Chiang Mai during my honeymoon in Thailand, so that makes this song extra special for me too.” – 9 Theory
