Philos Records has had nothing short of a monumental year so far. Poldoore is keeping the momentum going in a big way with his new LP “Chroma Dream.” The Belgian virtuoso producer has paved a fresh path with this release, seamlessly blending elements of old-school soul with new-age psychedelia. Renowned for his warm analog tones and soul-stirring compositions, Poldoore weaves downtempo, jazz, hip-hop, and ambient elements into lush sonic tapestries that feel both intimate and expansive. “Chroma Dream” is perhaps his boldest and most evocative work to date — a technicolor odyssey through memory, feeling, and fantasy.
“Bumpy Roads”, my personal favorite from the release, is a soul-stirring tune about confronting life’s struggles. A symphony of horns and strings carries the ethereal melody, tying together the punchy drums and glistening synths. This inspiring track empowers the listener to meet pain with purpose, to break free from proverbial shackles and become one with the rhythm of life.
“Dusty Echoes” blasts the second half of this LP into higher dimensions. This track involves more of Poldoore’s experimental sound catalog, showcasing his drive with the rest of Philos to embark on less conventional projects. The swanky hip-hop beat and bluesy melodies are set against sprawling galactic fields, featuring transcendent electronic elements. The second part of the track features a soothing violin break that feels like peering out over the edge of the universe. Whether you’re jamming out in the car or cooking breakfast, this track brings ALL the vibes.
“Soliloquy Interlude” is a poetic spaceship that gently sets us back down on Earth for just a brief moment. The melancholic bass and guitar rest underneath a simple drum beat, turning the grass into water and floating us away into a deep rhythmic daze. This track exhibits perfectly how vast Poldoore’s range truly is, bringing the organic and supernatural into harmonious light. This track sounds like Poldoore and Mac Demarco talking in a coffee shop as we patiently eavesdrop from a neighboring table.
Time to get your jazz pants on because “Mellow Breeze” flies us high over a glimmering sunset. The buttery saxophone and guitar soar like birds through skies of pink, purple, and blue. The simple chord progression is brought to life by pulsing piano pads and colorful, side-stepping solo features from the sax and guitar. For hip-hop aficionados, jazz connoisseurs, and die-hard bassheads alike, this track feels like peace and pleasure on a warm summer night.
Here is what Pooldore had to say about his new release:
“Chroma Dream embodies a vibrant kaleidoscope of melodies and rhythms, painting a musical canvas that’s as adventurous as it is eclectic. Like stepping into a dream where the familiar becomes fantastical, Poldoore’s new album invites listeners into a celebration of influences colliding, of boundaries dissolving, and of daring to embrace the full palette of emotion and creativity.”
This release is a fully immersive soundscape where live instruments dance with textured production and narrative fragments shimmer like pieces of a dream. Each track drips with emotion and intention, dissolving barriers between the tangible and the ethereal.
