This New Year’s Eve, Subtle Signs and Soundz Organic Present Ascend NYE, featuring a lineup of bass all-stars at De La Luz Soundstage in Holyoke, MA. Supertask is bringing along some massive names that have been making waves across the dubstep circuit for years now. With direct support from Kursa and Cøntra, there’s also ground-shaking sets featuring Beastman B2B Babydeer, Tunic B2B DoVeE, and the flute-wielding RequiemWitch.
Beastman B2B Baby Deer
Arrive early because these two artists are bringing unstoppable firepower to warm up the dance floor. A whirlwind of experimental bass, DnB, and chasmic, low-end frequencies, this is the perfect start to get your legs warmed up for a long night of nonstop moving and grooving. When they’re not cooking up tunes for fans, they’re participating with the local event production collective Creatures of the Night, the powerhouse behind Millside Amplified. If you are in the Easthampton, MA area, I highly recommend following M.A. for upcoming free music and arts festivals at Millside Park!
Tunic B2B DoVeE
These two artists are sure to cook up unstoppable heat for this epic b2b. With roots deep-seated in sound-system culture, Tunic and DoVeE are a match made in heaven. Their styles come together in perfect harmony, blending 140, dub, and deep subby bass. Their flip of the iconic track “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” has been on repeat and always hits the spot when tossed into a set. If you haven’t yet, go check out their latest collab, recently released on Deep Dark & Dangerous, “Cook Out Dub.” If you require bass that’ll rattle you to your core, I highly recommend diving into the dance floor for this set.
Requiem Witch
Requiem Witch has repeatedly proven herself as a major contender in the vast sea of talented producers in the deep bass scene. This young artist hails from New York, delivering something truly unique with her craft, her extensive classical flute training. This, paired with years of honing her sound, results in a marvelous coalition of deep basses and effervescent airwaves. Her music feels as if it flows through your body, with its booming, trippy bass and fluid etherealness. She has captivated fans from coast to coast playing alongside the likes of parkbreezy, pheel, and Josh Teed. This is one set you won’t want to miss!
Cøntra
Cøntra has been one of my top-listened-to artists for years now. Absolutely dominating the underground scene, he is a savage both behind the decks and behind the computer. Racking up countless collabs with some of the biggest names, including Chef Boyarbeatz, Abstrakt Sonance, Pushloop, and Saturna, and acclaimed releases on Deep Dark & Dangerous, Widdfam, and Gravitas, he is ever-evolving and taking his sound to new levels. If you enjoy heavy sub-bass with sonic textures, tribal influences, nature-infused atmospheres, and a style that surprises you with every song, you will love this set.
Kursa.
I can’t even begin to tell you how hyped I’ve been to see Kursa. This UK-based producer has such flair and finesse, blurring the boundaries of genres between experimental bass, halftime, and dubstep; his meticulous sound design is remarkable. His music is infectious, destroying dancefloors with sonorous low-end bass, monstrous breakbeats, and countless deep cuts. If there was a set to go full goblin mode, this is it. If you haven’t yet, check out our interview with him and Alicia Kiah about their collaborative album, Nisky Hill, on Memory Palace.
Supertask
Supertask has a beautiful way of diving below the surface with his music. His sound is sensational, fusing ambient and downtempo beats with some of the most mind-boggling low-end bass, creating dreamy, hypnotic, and introspective works of art. Unafraid of experimenting with structure and mood, his music and performances induce strong piloerection (your skin’s bumpy response to strong emotion, AKA goosebumps), revealing a connection between your nervous system and powerful feelings. Superlunary and immersive, coupled with astronomical levels of bass, every time I listen to his music, I fall more in love with it. Whether you’re seeing him live or lying in bed vibing out with some headphones, Supertask composes a transient passage into a fulfilling corporeal experience that feels as much as it sounds.
