August brought us a huge variety of new music. Massive hip-hop album releases topped the charts all month long, with Nicki Minaj, YG, Aminé, Mac Miller, and of course Travis Scott, all having released their projects at the very beginning of the month. My personal favorite hip-hop project from August was Travis’ Astroworld, with Aminé’s ONEPOINTFIVE as a close runner-up. Shout out to Mac Miller though, “Swimming” might actually be his best work yet. Check out my reviews of Astroworld and ONEPOINTFIVE here.
In the EDM lane, Rezz’s album A Certain Kind of Magic really stood out to me. Her signature sound is booming, and we can see it present in the glitchy, A.I. inspired beats from fellow producer and Rezz collaborator 1788-L and his new 4 song EP Sentience.
San Holo has also been gracing us with new music all month long. Three singles in and we are anxiously awaiting his upcoming album aptly titled album1. We also got new radio gold from Calvin Harris & Sam Smith, as well as a new release, “Thunderclouds”, from Diplo‘s new collab project with Sia and Labrinth.
My go-to favorite song of the month was Rüfüs Du Sol‘s “Underwater”. It honestly has taken over a part of my life. The song is an instant classic. Hot take here. “Underwater” is better than their first single, “No Place”, from their upcoming album, Solace.
There were also tons of heavy trap, festival anthem-type bangers released in August. Check out brand new heaters from Herobust, Kayzo, Slander & Crankdat, Sikdope, Quix & Vincent, and many more below, alongside all of my favorite tracks from the month.
Enjoy all the new tunage in this 40 song mix of Hip-Hop, Pop, Trap, Dubstep, Bass, Rock, and even a sprinkle of Indie and R & B. Shouts out also to Fytch, Choker, and Big Red Machine (Justin Vernon’s new project). All some of my newest discoveries in August thanks to some dear friends.
