It’s been a quiet few years for global superstar Calvin Harris. Since releasing his electro-funk collab album Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 1 in the summer of 2017, the acclaimed producer has strayed on a similar side of the aisle, releasing a number of scattered singles amidst the longest album-drought of the Scot’s star-studded career.

While the success and greatness of these singles are undeniable – lofted by impressive appearances by fellow pop icons such as Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, and SZA – fans have been clamoring to hear the latest evolution in Harris’ musical style.

Enter Love Regenerator1: the release of the extended cut B-sides has cemented the perpetual innovation of the producer’s craft while simultaneously establishing the platform for his latest, eponymous side project.

The two tracks – the release providing condensed edits and full mixes of both “Hypnagogic (I Can’t Wait)” and “CP-1” – are a fascinating blend of sounds we’ve heard throughout Harris’ career. Love Regenerator serves as a sort of culmination of previous concepts with the techno sounds of his deubut album I Created Disco playing beautifully off of the later, pop-oriented tone of 18 Months.

The former track, “Hypnagogic (I Can’t Wait),” incorporates a number of techno-traditional synths layered over a fervent shuffle beat that gives way to the iconic retro-Roland piano chords ever-prevalent in Harris’ tunes. The latter, “CP-1,” is tonally consistent with its predecessor while favoring more glittery and glitchy synth sounds to spell the pervasive, bouncing bass track. Both display a mastery in introducing dizzying but memorable vocal samples to the inherently catchy instrumentals.

While it is unclear how Harris intends to split time between production of the new project and his established platform, we are excited to hear what he has in store! Let us know which Love Regenerator track you like better in the comments.
