Raaket just put out a wild new single titled “Selecta.” If you’re not familiar with Raaket yet, it’s time to get educated. Raised in Ozark, Alabama, Raaket fell in love with music at an early age and discovered dubstep at thirteen. He started DJing in high school, and attended the SAE institute in London after college. He started the Raaket project in 2019 with his flip of Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Who Shot Ya.”

This year has been huge for Raaket. He has had major label releases with Morflo Records (“Get Down”) and Wubaholics (“Goodbye”). He also made appearances on tour stops with Mersiv, at Sound Haven festival, and at Evolutions Festival, where we had the chance to see him throw down. Now that you know a bit more about Raaket, let’s take a look at his newest work, “Selecta.”

A ragga-style vocal hook sets the tone from the start. Signature Raaket sounds and effects lend to an outer-space atmosphere he has quickly taken a knack to. The build teases the bassline, then the chorus smacks us right in the face. HUGE basses warble and flow together over a thick drum section. Raaket’s sound design is such ear candy. His musicality shines through too and is one of the defining qualities of his project. He keeps the groove going through the middle section, builds the tension up again… and holy second drop! The bassline is so damn good. It’s not always easy to make bass sounds that are big, interesting and melodic, but this rising star nails it every time. “Selecta” is an absolute weapon in any DJ’s set, and I for one can’t wait to hear it on a huge system.

We spoke with Raaket and he told us that with this type of vocal sample, you have to come PROPER with the instrumental. That’s exactly what he did. The high quality and energy of his music speaks for itself, and HIHF can’t wait to see him “raise a Raaket” in 2023.
