Secret Recipe is a Bay Area-based DJ, producer, and founder of the event company Wormhole Entertainment, as well as the label Wormhole Music Group. Wormhole has showcased heavy hitters like Of The Trees, Mersiv, CloZee, Chmura, and many more in the bass community. Secret Recipe’s music combines lush melodies and experimental, forward-thinking sound design which creates an immersive experience for listeners. Secret Recipe has toured most of the US and has played sets at some incredible festivals like Lightning In A Bottle, Infrasound, The Untz Festival, and Lucidity just to name a few. His new LP, “Endless Puzzles,” showcases the new spaces he’s exploring with his music.

Secret Recipe stayed true to his signature sound, while also expanding into new territory as an artist through experimentation and pushing his sound design to the next level. Here’s a preview of some of the tracks from the LP:

“Endless” combines calm, soothing melodies with heavy basses. The arrangement is minimal and lets all the different sounds shine through and allow the listener to easily latch onto the flow of the track.

“Hoodie Weather” starts off with emotive melodies, spacey pads, and a gradual build. The intro and verses have an ethereal feel that reminds me of some of Liquid Stranger’s downtempo tunes. Even though the track begins in an atmospheric way, it crescendos into hard-hitting distorted and experimental basses. There was a really solid balance here between moments that would work well on a dance-floor, and sections that are more relaxed and free-flowing.

“Affection” ties in well with the rest of the album. It brings in shimmery atmospheres and a piano lead that keeps the track rooted in a catchy melody. The energy builds quickly in this one into sine compression basses that bring the listener into a heavier take on the earlier themes of the track.

“Nightfall” is a little darker than the other tracks, and brings a different energy to the album with sound design and arrangement that suit the name of the tune. It adds a different flavor to the LP, while also keeping consistent and cohesive with the other songs from the project.
