On his mystical, four-track Theories EP, Mythic Rogue embarks on a sonic expedition to explore the bounds of his downtempo frequencies. Released on his very own Serotonin Signals label that the producer co-heads with Ghost Rook, the Theories EP offers a cohesive sound that winks to Mythic Rogue’s signature experimental bass lines and dreamlike melodies.
Mythic Rogue has proven to be on his A-game in the first half of 2023, headlining Badger Bass Camp festival and providing support for HIHF favorites like G-Space and Star Monster on their respective tours. The ambitious producer’s transcendental discography, including his infectious Soundcloud mixes, has made him a standout act on the Fractalliance roster and we can’t wait to see how he integrates this newest project into his live set.
Opening the Theories EP with the lead single and title track, “Theories,” with Frequency Bender, Mythic Rogue sets the tone by curating an ambiance detailed by distorted, revving bass. The two maestros maintain an intentional balance of atmospheric melodies and humming beat breaks that echo into the abyss. Raising the reverb of this arrangement for the outro, “Theories” closes on an eerie note that insinuates this sonic journey has only just begun.
Advancing onto track two, “Ruminating Thoughts”, Mythic Rogue employs ghostly feminine vocal chops over a stripped-down, ominous overtone. Heavy reliance on echo, reverb, and distortion makes this tune an ideal fit for this otherworldly EP. “Ruminating Thoughts” showcases Mythic Rogue’s ability to bring listeners on an aural odyssey with seemingly simplistic sound design.
“Patterns” progresses the Theories project by utilizing a mixture of delicate key work infused with gritty bass breaks. A ticking clock in the underlayer of the arrangement aids in retaining the passive tempo. Mythic Rogue flexes the true essence of his downtempo chops on this effort, reminding listeners of his sonic polarity while still maintaining the celestial thematics of the EP.
“Delirium” is the final track of the Theories EP and is perhaps the most haunting of them all. Ghoulish whispers and vibrational bass lines curate a foreboding ambiance that emulates the sounds of the underworld. Mythic Rogue does not shy away from the dark inclinations that are interwoven into this EP; “Delirium” retreats the Theories EP back into the mist and is sure to leave its mark on downtempo aficionados.
