Prepare your neurons for stimulation with this new collaborative piece from Wooliand Tape B, “Dopamine”, featuring the timeless Etta James vocal sample from “Something’s Got A Hold On Me”. The two acclaimed dubstep acts combined forces to deliver us this brain-pleasing late summer anthem through Wooli’s label, Wooli Music. Having been tested and proven a success on massive stages, this serotonin-inducing track made its rounds during the summer festival season, and it is finally primed and ready for consumption.
Over the past few years Wooli has solidified himself as a household name to any dubstep lover. From heart-pounding performances to diabolically momentous releases, he has undeniably earned his hierarchy in the dubstep world. With an extensive catalog of releases through Subdsidia, Never Say Die, Monstercat, and Ophelia, not to mention an ever-expanding collection of collabs with the hottest names in the industry, Wooli has maintained a chokehold on the eyes and ears of the dubstep industry with no signs of letting go. Following his latest performances commanding the feral-hours of EDC Las Vegas and Lost Lands, Wooli prepares to start the new year by embarking on the Tesseract Tour alongside Subtronics.
Like a ticking time bomb, the moment Tape B entered the realm of dubstep production, he exploded, bridging the gaps between old-school and new-school with his unique approach to sound design. With his razor-edged and detailed musical arrays and the use of nostalgic hip-hop remixes, his rise to the forefront of the scene has been nothing short of impressive. After his titanic year on the festival circuit with performances at Hard Summer, Bass Canyon and Lost Lands and catching the eye of notorious dubstep platforms like UKF, Deadbeats, and Wakaan, if you haven’t had an ear out for Tape B, now is the time.
“Dopamine” tickles your midbrain from beginning to end, opening with a haunting piano build-up layered with the ageless Etta James’ lyrics “Oh, sometimes, I get a good feeling”. As the track progresses, the echoed vocals accompany a melodic minefield of futuristic synths whilst the infectious stutter bass sounds feed your neurotransmitters.
The otherworldly melody finds comfort with the diverse arrangement as the track reaches the climax before introducing a whole other realm of sound with grotesque frog bass and wobbly bass noises. The entire ensemble incorporates musical elements from both Tape B and Wooli’s production wheelhouse creating this soon-to-be hit.
Undoubtedly, “Dopamine” properly concludes the summer festival season, leaving us with a harmonic banger as we cool down from the past few months of heat. As their first official collaborative project, this track serves as a good omen for the future sounds we can expect from the formidable duo of Wooli and Tape B. We can’t wait to see what’s next from the two super stars in the making. Here’s what Wooli had to say about his long-awaited collaboration with Tape B:
“I have been a massive fan of Tape B for a while and it was only a matter of time until we did something together. We originally layered the Etta James vocal over our instrumental as a placeholder. As we began playing it out, we fell in love with it and tried everything to get her team on board. We are honored to have been approved to use such a legendary vocal and we feel it really completes the record!” – Wooli
