Bass music bastion EAZYBAKED confronts the concept of starting anew with their latest EP “Respawn.” The Florida-raised duo cultivated a crazed following on the backs of their punishing bass-driven beats and captivating, energetic live performances. “Respawn” represents a sharp contrast in the style fans have come to love and is the most emotive release from the duo to date. They tapped vocalist OkayKayo for two of the EP’s tracks, bringing another expressive element to the project.

The visual component of this EP is incredibly strong, as the album art from Kayla Rickett leans into the video game motif. EAZYBAKED and OkayKayo are depicted as video game characters under a menu stating “GAME OVER,” giving the “player” the option to restart and “play again.” The concept of respawning in our emotional and personal lives rings throughout this EP, harping on the idea of starting anew with the learned experiences of the past, both good and bad.

A Vulnerable Collection of Beats

EAZYBAKED opens the EP with “ThewayUwalk” with OkayKayo, a masterfully peaceful beat adorned with Kayo’s soft vocals. He expresses the joy of falling in love and being at peace with where you are on your personal journey. “WithoutU” is a collaboration between EAZYBAKED and their downtempo alias The Bakers, further blurring the lines between the two projects. Still mellow, the beat is dancier than “ThewayUwalk” as the vocals yearn for enduring love and companionship.

To kick off the songwriting process for the EP, EAZYBAKED sent OkayKayo the beat for “Respawn.” This is the complementary track to “ThewayUwalk,” as Kayo wails about lost love and the burning desire to start anew. Kayo’s monologue bridge delves further into the resiliency of human nature as we learn and grow from our past experiences. “Therapy” wraps up the EP in a beautiful bow and bouncy, light beat. The FX and background textures in the EP are divine and lush, painting a soft, reflective, and meditative soundscape for fans. The Valentine’s Day release of the EP further drives home its romantic nature.

Here’s what Eric of Eazybaked had to say:

“We intend for listeners to experience a profound emotional journey – a spectrum of hope, love, healing, growth, sorrow, joy, vulnerability, authenticity, and pure emotion…Our personal experiences deeply influenced the creative process. Andrew was embarking on a new chapter as a single father, establishing his own independent life. I was experiencing the exhilaration of new love and the transformative experience of leaving my hometown and family home to embrace a new beginning…This project holds a very special place in our heart and we hope this music helps people in the same ways it helped us” – Eric Ray of EAZYBAKED

EAZYBAKED cultivated a rabid fan base for their upbeat, powerful bass music beats, but we cannot wait to see the duo further explore their emotional sides in their music and sets.
