It’s almost impossible to talk about dubstep in 2025 without mentioning the name Subtronics—and for good reason.  Fresh off his most iconic Miami Music Week to date, complete with an Ultra Mainstage performance, a headlining pre-party with Zeds Dead, and his third consecutive Dubstep Artist of the Year win at the EDM awards, Subtronics is on a legendary run that shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Following the release of two past singles, collaborating with dubstep phenom Wooli and UK DnB maven A Little Sound respectively,  the time for the first half of his album is finally here. “Fibonacci Part 1: Oblivion” gives fans a full glimpse into the mind of one of the greatest producers in the game, with epic collaborations and plenty of genre switch-ups that will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat (or breaking down the nearest railing).

With SoundCloud releases dating back over eleven years, Subtronics is no newcomer to the electronic music scene. Over the past decade, he has evolved alongside dubstep itself, cultivating a massive and dedicated following along the way. What began with opening sets playing to an empty room has since transformed into headlining the biggest stages in EDM and curating his own large-scale events at iconic venues like Red Rocks, the Tacoma Dome, and the Kia Forum. Subtronics also hosts his own three-day music festival, Cyclops Cove, in Boca Raton, Florida, further cementing his place as a powerhouse in the world of bass music.

Subtronics pushes a new set of boundaries on this record.  While he has always been known for his creative sound design, this EP ventures even further, undoubtedly heavily influenced by the recent release of highly anticipated synthesizer Serum 2, which has been taking the EDM world by storm. This powerful new tool opens up a realm of sound design possibilities for music producers, and Subtronics—ever ahead of the curve—is leading the charge.

The opening track “Oblivion” is a perfect stepping stone into this new era of Subtronics, showcasing his classic sound in the intro and first drop before it blasts off into a face-melting new sound for drop two.  This EP also marks the first collaboration between Subtronics and rising UK Drum & Bass star A Little Sound, who provides both vocals for the closing track “Final Breath” and that chunky DnB sounds we all know and love on the second drop.  High knees are required for this one.

When asked about his thought process on the concept for the EP, here is what Subtronics had to say:

“Part 1 of the EP conveys that all of reality, in its complexity and grandeur, originates from nature and the fundamental laws of the universe. It emphasizes the Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio as intrinsic patterns that govern nature, not through divine intervention, but through physics. Building on themes of alternate dimensions and fractals, the Fibonacci spiral is presented as the foundational DNA of reality.” – Subtronics

As we unpack this monster of a project, keep in mind that we will soon also be listening to Fibonacci Part 2, as this is just the beginning of what Subtronics has in store for us this year.  Stay tuned for that announcement and let us know in the comments below what your favorite song on the EP is!
