Smoakland has created their own incredible, appealing take on modern-day bass music, and their impressive catalog of original music and accolades proves just that. This dynamic duo has landed several big hits on iconic labels, including Doctor P and Flux Pavilion’s Circus Records, Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan, Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats, and the DMV. The fan favorite act has captivated audiences with their wonky and powerful anthems wherever they go.
Smoakland has been having an amazing 2025, after their filthy b2b set with Seth David at the MorFlo Records takeover at the Observatory Stage at Electric Forest, curated by the one and only Mersiv. With a wide range of musical diversity from liquid DnB to dubstep to trap under their belt, Smoakland has yet again demonstrated their immense knack for creating otherworldly bangers, blowing the bass music scene away with their new album, “Heavy Hitterz.”
This album is all about bringing the dangers of the ring to life through bass, and “Ready to Rumble” sets that exact tone. The first drop brings a gnarly one-two combo led by a stuttering bassline that annihilates your speakers. The next banger, “100 Dolla Bill,” is a collab with the legendary Big Gigantic featuring Silk Young’s impressive, soothing vocals; this tune boasts the fan-favorite growl bass in the first drop that ravers know and love, followed by a groovy saxophone that interludes into the second drop with a fakeout and timeless combination of funk and bass. “100 Dolla Bill” is meticulously crafted with insane sound design and is sure to be a festival anthem for years to come.
The fourth track on the album, “Mad Ting,” channels OG brostep elements and eloquently meshes them with Smoakland’s brutal style. This song flips on its head with the first drop, shifting from an ethereal buildup into an intense, crushing drop filled with bass. “Heavy Hitterz” follows up with a vibe switch, and it’s an absolute goliath of a tune. It makes you feel like you’re playing a wonky version of Pac-Man and trapped inside a high-paced competitive video game.
“Bust a Speaker” featuring Attitude is the subsequent banger in this album that effortlessly combines hard-hitting bars with abrasive, gritty bass; this one will have you headbanging your noggin off. You may recognize Attitude’s bars from the classic Smoakland staple “Welcome to Smoakland” or Mersiv’s monstrous collab with him, “Fire Dance.”
The conclusion to the album, “Get It,” starts off with a motivational buildup like you’re heading into a boxing match and then comes out swinging with lumbering, rolling bass, making for yet another hefty drop.
Here’s what Smoakland had to say about their intentions with their new album “Heavy Hitterz:”
“This project is exactly what the title says. Eight tracks – heavy hitting and beat driven to the fullest. We wanted to get right to the point with these tracks and give ya’ll a bunch of bangers.” – Smoakland
Smoakland truly executed on their vision for “Heavy Hitterz”, bringing heater after heater to the table. The duo will be leaving venues in shambles all across the country in their upcoming Super Bass Bros tour with Dirt Monkey. The first few stops will be at Royale Boston on August 2nd, then at Electric Playhouse in Albuquerque on August 22nd, and the following day they’ll be in El Paso, TX, at Lowbrow Palace on August 23rd. Don’t worry, there are more dates to be announced!
