As August comes to a close, the summer of heaters is also coming to an end. We had a great month in terms of new releases, huge albums from heavyweights across genre lines like Illenium, Young Thug, Bon Iver, BROCKHAMPTON, Kayzo, and even Jack Antonoff (of Bleachers and Fun.), Sam Dew, and TDE Producer Sounwave‘s new three-piece Pop project, Red Hearse.

Something you won’t find too often in these best of the month playlists is that — this month’s playlist might contain more Pop, Hip-Hop/Rap, and House Music than it does Trap and Dubstep. This is not usually the norm here at HIHF.

New house releases that stood out this month include new tracks from MK & Gorgon City, Tchami, Anti-Up, GTA (who has rebranded themselves as Good Times Ahead), and Dombresky, where new Hip-Hop cuts come from BROCKHAMPTON, a newly released from Swiss prison A$AP RockyQuality Control, Smino, DaBaby, Bas & EARTHGANG, SiR & Kendrick Lamar, Lil Tjay, etc dominated our earbuds all month long.

The two projects I keep finding myself coming back to are Young Thug’s “So Much Fun” and Illenium’s “Ascend“.

For Thugger, songs that may have fallen through the cracks on the first couple listens are reemerging as some of my favorites off of the album. Illenium’s new project is just jam-packed with radio-friendly hits. With features from not only some of the biggest names in Pop music like The Chainsmokers, Jon Bellion, and X Ambassadors, but also flourishing up and comers like Said The Sky, Foy Vance, Annika Wells, Blanke, GOLDN and tons more.

The most notable track of the month has to be Subtronics and Griz‘ new collab off Griz’ new Deadbeats EP. “Griztronics” has been teased for months by the two producers and now that it is finally out, artists all over the EDM space are mixing and mashing it throughout their sets.
