Since 2014, Ben Gorvine has been producing hypnotically atmospheric electronic music under the pseudonym IHF. Operating out of DC, “Imagined Herbal Flows” established his musical platform with a motivated online presence garnering millions of streams on his debut Floating EP.
In subsequent years, IHF has been no stranger to success as his unique, indie-alternative approach to chill electronic has earned him the support of major industry players – touring with Big Wild, GRiZ, and Glass Animals while making appearances at events such as Coachella and Electric Forest most prominently.
While quiet on the release front since his 2016 EP Departure, IHF dropped a handful of singles throughout 2019 with the latter two – “Up All Night” and “Roam” – teasing his eventual third EP titled Oasis.
The two singles eloquently capture the understated diversity of the release with versatile approaches to a low-tempo house sound. The EP is littered with reverberating synths that swoop and chime through tracks before pulsating hooks.
Nothing gives the release more of an iconic indie spin than the vocals: the track “Gold” serves as a crash course in IHF’s vocal arsenal with the choppy, chirping samples and deeply pitched distortions blended beneath an otherwise soft-spoken performance.
Oasis is a resonating piece full of texture and imagination, and we’ll be sure to keep it in circulation in the coming months. Which track did you like best? Let us know in the comments!
