Just in time for Halloween, CHEE makes a solo comeback to the Deadbeats label with a ghastly new single, dubbed “Spangled“.
The South African bass sensation has been taking the dance floor by storm, spinning his one-of-a-kind lateral sound design all over the world. CHEE’s genre-defying frequencies first penetrated the electronic scene back in 2016, after releasing his first EP, Shrodinger, on the Dutch label, Underslung. After some of his tracks received a boost from radio shows and Youtube buzz alongside Dutch electronic trio Noisia, prominent labels began to take notice of the young producer’s capabilities.
The following year, CHEE released his first official album, titled FEAR MONGER, released through Saturate Records. This album spotlighted his heavyweight bass control that pushes the boundaries of the craft and the limits of the sub-woofers through which they are played. His methodical rhythms and glitchy neuro-hop arrangements drew influence from genres like drum & bass, future beats, and trap, which further solidified CHEE’s versatility.
By 2020, CHEE had released his first single through Deadbeats, garnering massive praise from both fans and producers. His 2021 Deadbeats EP, Paralysis Analysis, included five bangers that proved to be ideal moshpit openers. Tracks like “Turn Up” and “Fight Club” featuring Mr. Carmack brazenly affirmed his low-end, automatonlike styling and sound design know-how that actively attributed to his thriving success in the experimental bass scene. Just this year, CHEE has brought his sonic masterpieces to huge festivals like Hard Fest, Shambhala, and Lost Lands.
Returning to Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats label today for “Spangled”, CHEE curates an eerie tune that fuses vocal samples alongside a deep, haunting bassline. Entrancing listeners with static and breathy sound effects, he effectively garners a chilling vibe that will surely keep this track spinning throughout the spooky season. “Spangled” is a present-day representation of CHEE’s meticulous craftsmanship and gritty, shapeshifting soundscapes that continuously blow the minds of bass fans and producers alike.
CHEE plans to team up with Zeds Dead at Deadbeats LA on November 19th to play this ominous tune out for eager fans in conjunction with the rest of his filthy, sensational discography.
