Prepare your speakers for a sound system behemoth because the Shanghai Doom duo just released a new, heavy four-track EP, titled Visitors. Out now on Wubaholics, this crashing bass barrage of experimental heat blends innovative production, unique sound design, and storytelling to deliver a mix of diabolical electronic art.
With the summer heat comes blazing releases from up-and-coming creators like Shanghai Doom. Based out of New Jersey, this rapidly growing pair has exploded their talent onto the scene, catching the eyes of dubstep virtuosos, Zeds Dead, Excision,LSDREAM,and Liquid Stranger. They also just announced they’ll be gracing the decks at Wakaan Music Festival this year, playing amongst other brilliant artists including some of the hottest names in bass music like Alix Perez, Caspa, and HIHF guest mix alumni, Torcha, and dozens of other jaw-dropping acts.
Shanghai Doom is making a prominent mark, establishing an unparalleled niche in the community with their musical versatility and creative remixes. This new EP is a testimony to their fresh approach to bass music, fusing high-energy rhythms while showcasing their dark, mysterious hybrid trap-fueled style, and telling an alien invasion story all along the way.
The first track, “Visitors,” warms us up with dissonant beats and paranormal textures. The robotic undertones and thundering bass abduct listeners and bring them to otherworldly realms. The pulse-pounding tune is a captivating experimental creation utilizing high frequencies and vicious screeches.
“Rhythm Rocker” gets a little more dubious and exploratory. The bouncy drums and low-end frequencies land us on a planet outside our solar system, but actually within cyberspace, inducing the nastiest of digital bass faces. This makes the track name a perfect fit for the song’s effect on audiences.
A personal favorite, “Foreign Apparatus,” slows it down and builds suspense before each wonky drop. Paired with eerie vocals, this boundary-pushing heater constructs a sonic environment of cutting-edge bass that leads us into the unknown.
The gravitational pull we have to Shanghai Doom’s artistry is undeniable. The two have a way of layering their production with unsettling soundscapes that evoke the most unique sensations and leave us constantly wanting more. This fascinating EP is a supernatural journey that we seriously recommend listening to. Here’s what the duo had to say about the new Wubaholics-assisted release:
“Always inspired by otherworldly sounds the visitors EP is a showcase of hyper energetic lasers and bass. The unofficial soundtrack to an all out war with an invasive alien species the 4 tracks will keep the listener on their toes.” – Shanghai Doom
