The fan-favorite Deep, Dark & Dangerous label adds Caspa, one of the most influential artists in dubstep history, to the roster with his new Inner Space EP. Truth’s label DDD has championed heavy-hitter sound system artists like Ternion Sound, Pushloop, Distinct Motive, Shlump, DMVU, Khiva, Hypho, and dozens more. This is a momentous day for the DDD label as they officially add Caspa, the dubstep don, to the family.
Like DDD, Caspa has always represented the underground throughout his tenured career. He’s stayed true to the roots of dubstep over the years and continues to be a staple in the community. The producer sticks to his signature sound with Inner Space and brings some experimental and futuristic sound design. Here’s what the iconic dubstep artist had to say about the new release.
“As Crazy D says… deeper darker, darker deeper. Just exploring that inner space we all have. Dubstep since dubstep, always and forever.” – Caspa
Discussing the landmark release on DDD, Truth had this to say:
“We’ve been massive fans of Caspa since day one. He’s one of a very small number of true pioneers of dubstep. It’s hard to overstate just how much he’s influenced the genre, how many people’s first experience of dubstep was his Fabric Live 37 mix with Rusko!” – Truth
The EP begins with a dark, ethereal tune titled “Overlords,” where a speaker talks about an artificial state of consciousness. This gives the track a storyline and the production a mysterious, dark tone. The bass line is experimental but also brings in classic 140 sounds.
“Gummo” is a minimal, deep, and hypnotizing track that proves this iconic artist is staying true to his roots. At the same time, he’s keeping his sound fresh and exciting with new elements. This tune is more melodic and a little lighter than the other tracks on the EP.
“Interdimensional” stays consistent with the theme of the EP, transporting the listener to another planet. It’s heavy but also doesn’t get overcomplicated. This is what makes Caspa’s EP and overall style stand out positively, his innate ability to captivate listeners. “What Happened To Him” closes out the EP on a danceable, bouncy dubstep track fueled by spacey sound design and will resonate with 140 heads too.
